Apple ibook v. Fujitsu s6231

Hi-
This is my first time posting here but I have been on other notebook forums. I have been doing a lot of research and seem to be stuck. I am going to be in college next year and am looking for a laptop. I have never owned one before and also never used a Mac before. I want to use the laptop to do basic school work like type papers and stuff but also download music, use Photoshop 7, watch DVD's, have wireless networking, multitask, and be fast enough that I am not frustrated. Also affordable (1000 - 1500). I do not plan on doing much gaming either. I have been doing research for a while and narrowed it down to the Fajitsu s6231 or the Apple ibook (not sure of 12 in or 14 in). Like I said I have never used a Mac so I am a little hesitant on making the switch. My question is which one should I go with and why. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

P.S. also good battery life.

I've had my Fujitsu 6231 for a few weeks now and I must say it's awesome. I got mine for <1500 bucks with a 3 year warranty and 5400 rpm hard drive (40 GB). I get 4 hours with wireless on, web surfing and typing notes while the screen is on low to low-medium brightness. I didn't think the ibooks had as good of battery life (2 - 3 hours?), but maybe I'm wrong. That info was from my TA last semester with the 12" ibook. The Fujitsu has a better screen (Crystal View). Not sure how much the ibook weighs, but the Fujitsu is 4 lbs with CD drive and like 3.63 or something with the weight saver.

One note, since macs use a slot CD drive, there's not modular bay to stich another battery in. They allow you to hot swap your batteries (you don't have to turn it off first), but that means you're carrying around an extra battery, making the whole package a bit less portable.

Don't worry about getting Office software on either, Universities provide HUGE discounts on that for you...just a heads up.

I don't see a big advantage to the mac...and I'm weary of compatibility issues. So I don't see a convincing reason to override your hesitance about switching.

I put some pictures of my Fujitsu in the picture gallery for other brands.
PM me if you have any questions about the Fujitsu.

the 14" ibook gets > 5 hrs of battery life, the 12" >4 hrs of battery life.

In my opinion , for what you want to do it for, and how important it is thatis continually work, i'd get the apple. OS X is going to take a lot less taking care of and require a lot less "computer knowledge" to keep running smoothly. The ibooks are also durable as hell, great for lugging around campus.

Anything you want to do can be done on a mac.. and typically easier. If you are not a "computer guy/girl" I would definately say get the ibook. With student discount there is nothing even close to it for $899 (12")

you may want to hit up theapple section if you haven't seen it also, to get some views frm the "other side"

I have to say that were i not STUCK with windows, i would have never sold my powerbook... funny thing is, as an mcse/ccna/ network engineer, I thought that I needed to get back deeper into windows.. and now all the places trying to hire me are trying to hire me for OS X knowledge.. hah.
