Swapping xBrite w/ 9300 LCD?

Is it possible to swap an Xbrite into an 9300? Maybe even order a spare part from Sony? I mean, the LCD connection to the video card is probably standard right? The rest is just dimensions to make sure it fits. Anyone know the details on the xBrite LCDs?

good question...

if they are compatible why don't we just make a big group purchase (maybe at discount) and order a few hundred xbrites from sony... rather than wait for Dell to ship us the "perfect" screen.

I'm sure most here would pay extra for the best LCD they can get.

LCDs screens are very expensive. For my buddies old Compaq with 1024x768 resolution it was just under $700. I can only imagine how much it would be for 17" WUXGA xBrite.

no, the connectors are custom for each notebook, as well as the underlying power requirements. Also the casing is specially designed to hold the specific LCD model.

Price aside, just wondering if it'd work. I talked real quickly with a Sony rep online, just got the parts 800 number and she also recommended finding the local Sony service center and calling them.

That was definitely true in the old days, but in the last few years, I thought most of them conformed to VESA interface and mounting standards.

C'mon, Sonic, try it!

I think aside from dimensional differences, it should work if you connect it to the 9300. Quick someone try this out.

Oh no...if did work....I can totally picture all of us going to Bestbuy to buy a Sony...swap the displays and the return it. The devils are here.

For the price difference, you could probably just get a sony notebook...

Whoa! That auction sort of confirms that Sony sources their XBrite panels from Samsung.
hey, it's just another Samsung ...
Does it mean, Dell intentionally give us crappy Samsung?!!!
naa... prolly that samsung cannot sell it 2 anyone else

Sony parts support toll free number is 1-800-488-7669, from what I got from the chat last night. I'm gonna try giving them a call later on. If anyone wants to beat me to it, go for it.

I believe this is the Samsung link for the one in the eBay auction.

i dont think the xbrite lcds are that much more expensive than the dell lcds. I saw some 17 inch replacement panels online a few days ago. if anyone would use custom connectors i think it would be sony. all the same, somebody should try this.

Here's a quick look behind sony's xbrite technology: http://www.sonystyle.ca/html/xbrite/

By "somebody should try this", do you mean:
"I want to see if this is possible, but don't want to take the risk of breaking anything, so someone else try it and let me know how it goes"?

If I had both sitting in front of me, I'd try it out. Alas I don't, and my BB card doesn't have enough credit on it to go try it.
