Swapping xBrite w/ 9300 LCD? - Page 4

The backlight is just a slender fluorescent tube. The light is distributed over the entire LCD using a simple white diffuser. The LCDs Dell uses have a single CFL mounted at the bottom. Sony probably just uses one on the bottom and one on the top. It shouldn't change the size of the module at all.

All I gotta say is you guys are crazy. For the thought, idea of hacking up expensive laptops, and cost associated with it.

I have a friend working with Dell in Austin. If I can be of any help.. let me know. Maybe we can access the internal "portal" for some specs info.

Buy my used A170, swap the LCD with your Dell. Sell it again. Bang, you got a Sony LCD for $100 or less.

you're funny. the replacement lcds cost ~650 according to the dell tech guy. 100 would not be considered a bulk order for a large corporation. Maybe if you add a few zeros to that, they will give you a small discount.

^^ really? I talked to dell spare parts today and the wxga+ is like $360 and the wuxga is about $490(I was considering getting the xga+ for my xps2).

I know, I tend to be too idealistic at times

I wonder if anyone has tried the LG LW70?

I can hardly wait for somebody to get the balls to try this. It would be amazing if it works.

Someone with PR skillz (with the z) needs to get a hold of Sharp and get them to ship out a "test" lcd. Someline along the lines of doing consumer research into Dell production or something. I give it a 0.9% chance of working, but you never know.

I have the sony screen in mine. Oh wait, I have a Sony. C'mon guys, give me a break, the Sony board is dead compared to this and I'm lonely.
When I did have the 9300, I never thought of acquiring a sony screen but I did see a Samsung list. They had a couple of impressive screen specs listed to be released in Q1 of 2005. For all you guys that got the 9300's cheap, I would think you'd look into this. Seeing it's the same mfg of the current dell's, I would immagine they'd just drop in, maybe.

For the modders out there, I wish them luck. Remember, anything is possible.

has anyone considered putting a Sharp 17" WUXGA screen into their 9300? I've found two places that sell them but not sure if they sell to end-users like myself..

the LCD in my old Inspiron 8000 was a 15" sharp uxga - and boy was it wonderful - unlike my current Samsung in my 9300.
