I have been lurking around for a while here reading your posts. I got a lot of information from you. Thank you very much!

Here is my order.

Pentium M 750
17 inch True Life Wide Screen UXGA
1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDIA 6800,for Inspiron
80GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
24X CD-RW/DVD Combo for Inspiron 9200
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless
6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
9-cell Lithium Ion Additional Battery
3 Year At Home Service with Nights and Week ends, 24x7 Technical Support

After using 35% coupon with 20% instant rebate, the price is $1,773.78

How do you guys think? Actually, I was thinking about XPS2 too, and I'd like to wait for some comment from guys who is going to get XPS2 soon. However, I just can resist that 35% coupon

I just hope I will get the Samsung one.

Glad to see you were smart enough to get the 9cell as secondary. Shame people are missing that for $30 you get an extra battery, as oppesed to upgrading.

What do you mean 35% coupon with 20% instant rebate. I thought the 35% coupon was not stackable.

I just configured a system with your specs and have no idea how you got it down to $1773. Best I can do is $1855 before tax (that is just the 35% coupon).

The 9-cell additional battery is a great deal!

I did realize that after I read some topics that talked about this (The XPS2 battery is even cheaper, but I have no idea if it will be compatible with 9300). For 9300, if you upgrade you need to pay $99, but additional one costs you $129. That is no-brainer for me.

What is your total before applying 35% coupon? Mine is $2330.40 (after 20% instant discount, $582.60). When I apply the 35% coupon the discount jumped to $1019.55. Also , the additional 2% discount ($37.87) by paying with Dell Preferred Account.

??? I got the same number as you ($1855.58)! The bill seems to give me another $69.00 shipping discount too. But I still don't know why I got $1773.78.

Battery is a no brainer.

I take it you have not actually ordered your system yet. If that is the case, then here is how the deal works. The 35% coupon is not stackable on top of the 20% off. The 35% coupon essentially takes the place of Dell's 20% instant savings currently offered on Dell's website. If you could stack the 35% on top of the 20%, Dell would sell a ton of these and lose a ton of money too.

Thanks for the info! I didn't really calculate or try to understand how discount works. I already ordered 9300. Anyway, it's a good deal.

Sometimes Dell calculates things in weird ways. I'd just double check your order confirmation to make sure all the options you selected are still there. If so, the $1773 is a great deal.

My bottom line dropped about $120 from $2220 to $2100 between checkout and order confirmation. Why? No clue but I figure your scenario is similar.

Not bad Kimsk, in England you would have paid the equivalent of $2,940.77 for that package.

I'm not bitter.

.. honest.

Hi JoyB, I don't have a laptop as yet! I'm a music hardware guy for the most part, but am needing to tap into the power of computers moreso, and my current desktop PC is archaic. I've literally ran it in to the ground over the last few years, and now need more resources.... Hence a new laptop purchase to kick-start it further.

Am thinking either the Dell i9300, the forth-coming Fujitsu M3438, or the Asus W2... Something portable, with 17" widescreen and plenty of poke, but efficient and quiet (hence the Pentium M choice), and with expansion for the future.

I'd wait for the Fuji, but there aren't any PCI-Express laptop soundcards as yet.

Thing is these batteries have a certain shelf life after manufacturing. Once you get it, it starts to die. If you think you're going to use your 9 cell then after it dies, use your 6 cell, think again. If you really will use two batteries to get the extended battery life, then it's a good deal. I never use mine for more than 3 hrs without being plugged in so the additional battery does me no good. However, the $100 in my pocket does do me some good

The thing is it's not $100 in your pocket if you plan on upgrading to the 9 Cell for your primary battery. I assume that since I doubt you will get 3 hours from a 6 cell battery on the 9300.

The upgrade as a primary battery is $99 ($64.35 after 35% off). To keep the primary as a 6 cell and add a 9 cell as a secondary when ordering is $129 ($83.85). That is only $19.50 to get both vs. just upgrading to just a 9 cell. If you are going to go with a 9-cell, taking the 6-cell for $19.50 more is a no brainer.

I bought the two batteries. It only costs literally $30 to keep the six cell, and I'll use it. These 9300s with the go6800 will stay active for around 3hours with the 9cell and 1.5-2 with the six depending on your use. Today, I used both... I use it to monitor DV25 video signals in the field and ran them both dry in one day of work. But the interviews look great! I'm probably going to get another 9cell when they begin to show on fleabay.

I only got the 6 cell for my speced out 9300. It's in production so I would have to cancel and reorder to get the 6 cell primary and 9 cell secondary but honestly I am not sure how much I need both so I am tempted to wait and see if I really need it. Are there coupons for batteries?

Thanks..

OK, for US customers this might make sense. I personally don't think more is better though, and typically take what I need instead. Leave the resources for future gens to plunder.

For my case, upgrade from 6 cell to 9 cell was US$32 and buying an additional 9-cell was US$128. A no brainer to choose upgrade rather than buying an extra. (dell.ca)

Dell sure has a funny way of pricing things differently in various countries. In your case, the upgrade was the no brainer. I would have done the upgrade only if it was a matter of $32. Instead I had to spend about $90 after coupon.
