OK, its running at 747mhz? I think? Anyways, how do i put the clock back to 2.0ghz? Do i just uninstall the rightmark cpu clock utility? Please needledik respond to mimiman76@hotmail.com or anyone else who knows...only email if you can help me please.

Would FID of 6x use more electricity than FID of 8x (at the same VID of 0.700V and FSB of 100Mhz)?

Fixxxxed!

Nothing we can do but request for the bug to be fixed.
He quickly fixed that bug as stated in the above link.

Here is the link to the 1.5 version that fixes the 120 dpi crash bug:

Thanks for the link, Mich43L. I'll try it. BTW, I use 150 dpi.

Hey guys,

I have been trying to use speedswitch for my laptop to reduce the fan noise. However, I am having difficulty understanding which settings to change and to what values. I experimented but found no good solution, the fan still goes off an inordinate amount.

The speedswitch website doesn't explain too much. Can someone please tell me the general fields to modify and to what values?????

My problem was not being able to set the max VID while the profile was set to Maximal in the Management tab.

By changing the profile to Automatic Management, I was able to change both the Maximal and Minimal VID.

So far, this is what I've achieved (I'm still stress-testing with Prime95):

CPU: 55ºC
System (northbridge): 47ºC
Vcore = Vmax: 1.052 V @ 16x 100 Mhz
Vmin = 0.7000 V @ 6x 100 Mhz

My rig: Intel PM725 (1.6Ghz); i855GME; Dell Inspiron 700m

I'll post update when I get to the lowest stable voltage.
What numbers you have for the Maxvid and minimal? Is everything working ok??

Dell Inspiron 700m (Pentium M 725) Underclocked Results

Here are my underclocking results:

Load______FID___CPU___________Sys______VID_______Comment

<3%_______6_____52_steady_____45________0.9880___Standard_settings
100%______16____71_steady_____55________1.3400___Standard_settings

<3%_______16____50-59_________45-48_____1.3400___Worst_case_scenario_at_standard_voltage
100%______6_____50-60_________45-49_____0.9880___Worst_case_scenario_at_standard_voltage

<3%_______6_____47_steady_____45________0.7000___Optimal_Setting
100%______16____52_steady_____45________1.0200___Optimal_Setting

Sorry for those awful looking underlining. This forum's text editor sux.

Anyway, as you can see, I'm 19ºC cooler at peak load! 5ºC cooler at idle.
Awesome!

Additional details:

* Fan comes on at 59ºC and goes off at 50ºC so for some settings, the temperature run over a range with the fan cutting in and out.

* My CPU is Dothan 725 (1.6 GHz) with 100 MHz front side bus (FSB) quad-pumped giving 400 MHz. Minimum FID of 6x and maximum of 16x.

* Computer is Dell Inspiron 700m (768MB RAM)

* <3% load means just running WinXP, AntiVir anti-virus, ZoneAlarm Pro firewall, Wifi, MobileMeter and RMClock Utility. Everything else off.

* 100% load means Prime95 crunching away with 256MB allocated RAM.

* All temperature readings done with MobileMark after it stabilises for at least 10 minutes. Some readings never stabilise due to the fan's influence. See note above.

* Ambient temperature at time of testing 20.5ºC; relative humidity 40%

* Computer on wooden desk, no extra elevation, slim battery attached, AC power, weight saver module installed in both PCMCIA and optical drive slots.

* FID is also known as CPU clock speed multiplier. VID is voltage to CPU core.

Okay, so I did this tonight with the Sony S270P I just got, and all I can say is wow.

Unfortunately, I didnt do a bench for the battery or temp or anything prior to this, but I can just say RMclock is AWESOME.

My Settings are

Maximal VID: 1.036
Minimal VID: 0.716

I left the minimal at .716, for no particular reason whatsoever, but the maximal is not stable at 1.020, so I upped it to 1.036. I will run the prime95 while I sleep for a bit, to see what happens.

Thank you much Needldik. I too would be interested in your other tutorials ...

I just have to say, rmclock really helped this lappy out. Previously, when I was plugged in, no matter what it would run with the fan on... which bothers some people. Now, when load is less than 100% the fan is off and the system is at like 40*C. Silent as a rock. I want to do some battery tests and whatnot, but am not sure how to do so...
Yeah Needldik, lead us into the greater tomorrow!

I didn't expect the Sony S-series to do as poorly as yours, gozi. I was going to get that but in the end, went with the Dell 700m
post #210 of 1202
Hmmm interesting..

Normal:
AC Profile Max @ 1.308v idle around 57c
AC Profile Max @ 1.132v idle around 54c

On AC Profile Automatic, it will ofcourse switch to Min @ 0.700v which idle around 53c.

I am playing the guessing game right now as I don't have internet access on the Z71V at the moment to run Prime95 hehehe.

I'll try lower voltage tonight when i get home. Seems to only be 2c - 3c for me so far. How the heck did people get 10c? Are you comparing against Min vs Max? or Max vs Max?

By the way, I am using this as a stress test and burning..
http://users.bigpond.net.au/cpuburn/

It keep my CPU at 100%. Temp averages around 60c...heheheh

Don't need to. You can run the torture test instead - it's in the options.

You won't see that big of a difference when the cpu isn't stressed out. Only when it's at full load you'll notice huge temp drop.

You're actually right. Before on the 100% CPU utilization, it was around 67c - 68c. This is actually pretty nice. I might lower one or two more steps after 48 hours of burning this baby in.
Any sense in allowing both p-state and ODCM? What exactly is throttling? My load graphs look weird now. Very jumpy. I used Automatic Management for both P-state and ODCM.
I think P-state is much better overall... I read that somewhere.

Anyway, I was able to bring my M6Ne with Pentium-M 1.5 Dothan down to 0.940 V... stable SO far.
Doing a stress test against 1.084v now. Seems to be stable so far.

Temp: 56c.
Mine is stable at 0.7V and 0.940V respectively.
What I'm saying is that there is no need to peek between P-state and ODCM. You can have both of them at the same time. So I was asking if it gives anything in terms of battery life. Setting throttling to 12.5% slows notebook quite a bit, but I don't see any temperature improvement. Testing battery life is very time consuming.
So far stable @ 1.052v

Running both Prime95 & CPU Burn-In Stress test at the same time..constant 100% CPU Utilization.

See picture

http://www.smilepak.com/lappy/desktop.jpg

CPU @ 100%
Temp @ 57c
Voltage @ 1.052v

Actually, I got a pretty big idle temp drop, as most people complain abouy the S360/270 fan, and now it never comes on under low stress.

p.s. I ran the torture test for 7 hours today, and I felt that is a good enough "check" as it lasted at 1.036... no errors no warnings...

thanks again needledik

p.s. BeijingKOALA, I Think the S did pretty well overall. I am thoroughly impressed with the results.
Thanks Needledik for the info. I have undervolted my aspire 1691 and set it to min 0.7v and max 0.940. It has been tested by running turture test (Prime95) for more than 18 hours and it still running now and I have found no problem so far. The temperature is 49C.
