With "Run HLT" when RMClock shows my clock speed at 798Mhz and cpu idle, in System Properties in Control Panel it says I'm running at 1.6Ghz. In task amanger it says cpu 100%.

If I turn off "Run HLT" RM Clock shows me at full speed, 100% load, and System Properties only at 798Mhz. Task manager reports CPU Idle.

So should I run HLT or not? I'm confused.

i9300 1.6 Pent-M

.700v min
.876v max

tested stable overnight (~7 hours)

I say don't. Run RMClock 1.5 as opposed to 1.4. 1.5 tell you to restart the computer when you check/uncheck the HLT checkbox so you'll probably are not noticing the change if you don't restart.


Tip for running RMClock on batteries: If you're not doing anything that processor intensive, set RMClock to Minimal under "Battery Profile" (present in version 1.5) or "Force minimal state on Battery" if using version 1.4. I found that if you set it on "Automatic Management", RMClock will very frequently jump up between CPU frequencies on the slightest increase in cpu load - I found that this drains the battery much faster.

It doesn't ask you to restart the computer, only to restart the program. For me, the only way to get this to work is to have the HLT turned on. With this box checked, every program (RMClock, CPU-Z, Mobile Meter) accurately reports CPU load and frequency; BUT, windows task manager does not. However, if I turn HLT off, then RMClock does not report CPU load correctly and keeps the laptop and maximal at all times.

After getting the maximal and minimal VID. Do i need to uncheck the P-state Transition thing?

Do i need to run RMClock during startup and throughout the usage of the laptop?

no - leave P-State checked
yes - leave it running set to "automatic management"

Is it normal that my processor's clockspeeds go down to about 600Mhz when i'm testing for the Minimal VID? I just started at the lowest which is 0.7V.

Dang... this thing really works... my notebook now runs much cooler and the fan comes on less frequent when I'm running on batteries... managed to get 0.700V on lowest clock (600MHz).. havn't fully tested on the max clock speed though, but it can reach around 0.988V for now...

Gained about 30 more minutes on the battery with this method though.. definately recommended to all notebook users...!

Im running the same settings as you bob, .700 and .988, haven't tried to push it farther because i havent had the time, but i ran prime95 and cpu burnin for an hour at these settings. I get a tiny tiny bit of heat on my lap, but nothing but cool air out the back, when clocked down at 798mhz.

Erm after i got my MAX/MIN VID. I restarted my com with the RMClock running automatically at startup. But why does my clockspeed show around 600Mhz only? Why is it at minimal state? What settings did i not do correctly?

My VID Current shows my lowest 0.7V. My VID Startup shows 0.988V. Minimal VID shows 0.7V and Maximal VID shows 1.34V.

I set my MAX VID to 1.052V. How come the Maximal VID there is 1.34V? How come my Startup VID shows 0.988V?

Please help

In the Advanced tab, what's the TM2 Target FID and VID supposed to be? Mine is 6.0x and 0.988V respectively. Then i have the enable SpeedStep Technology checked. Also, Thermal Monitor 1 is checked.

In the Management tab, my Minimal FID and VID is 6.0x and 0.7V respectively, and Maximal FID and VID is 17.0x and 1.052V respectively. Both AC and Battery profile are at Automatic Management. P-State Transitions checked. Also, the Run HLT command when OS is idle is checked too.

In the Monitoring tab, my CPU Clock shows around 600Mhz. My FID & VID are both at minimal state, 6.0x and 0.7V.

In the General tab, SHOW PERFORMANCE LEVEL IN ICON is checked. So is ALERT ON CPU THERMAL THROTTLING, START MINIMIZED TO TRAY and RUN AUTO AT STARTUP.

What settings are wrong? Please help

In the Management tab, when both my AC and Battery Profiles are at Automatic Management. The laptop runs at the Minimal, why is that so? When i change it to Maximal, the laptop runs at its full speed which is 1.7Ghz.

Do i still use Automatic Management or stick with Maximal for the profiles?

I dont see much temperature improvement. With MobileMeter. I still temperatures higher than 55degrees, normal? What's wrong

Anyone tried used for the desktop cpu in laptop? I tried it. No display of the voltage and the P-state box is grey out.

or only for P-M.

Newbie to the hardware tweaking world need help!

I read the WHOLE thread yesterday and decided to undervoltage my brand new 700m 1.8Ghz with 1G of RAM.

From people posting here, seem like P4 M dothan 1.6/1.8 default min VID is 0.7 and max VID is 1.34 and customized to min VID 0.7, max VID less than 1

I just don't want to torture test my 700m so I decided to play safe: min VID 0.7, max vid 1.180. running stable no problems (DVD decoding test)

How ever, in the advanced tab, their are several options I don't understand at all. Themal monitor (protection) target is FID: 8.0x, VID: 1.052, what does that mean? I don't want the fan to run too late and fry my CPU.

BTW, what software did you guy use to monitor fanspeed, CPU temps and other temps?

For those have P4 M 1.8 Dothan, what is your setting (original min/max FID-VID, customized min/max FID-VID, thermal protection setting)?

Thermal protection target refers to settings to which are applied in the event of CPU overheating, much like various thermal throttling systems on desktop.

Keep in mind that the P4-M and the Pentium-M (Dothan) are two VERY different CPUs...

Yes, it's not a Pentium 4. -Just "Pentium M". (& way better in a laptop. )
Also, the thermal settings are set at what the BIOS or chipset defaults are set at. you WON'T GAIN A THING by messing with these, but should something go wrong, you could kill your CPU if you set the threshold incorrectly.
Best just to leave them be.

Also, an important part of determining your individual hi-throttle voltage setting is maxing out your machine.
You won't hurt it, don't worry! (We wouldn't let you do something that would hurt it. )
