Simple Undervolting Tutorial - Pentium M Dothan - Page 17

Yeah anything 1.7g and over is gonna need at least 1v.
For word proc. & internet .956 on the 1.6g 730 seems to run fine

Replace Task Manager

Hi guys,
i've just done undervolting on my Acer 2GHz Dohan and have to use
the HLT command otherwise the CPU keeps runing at around 1.5 - 1.9
on idle.
Trouble as we now with the HLT command is that it makes my
Task Manager showing 100%. So i'm looking for some other program
doing the same job, but be able to show correct CPU usage.
Thnx folks

OK, so i've read every single page, yet still have a question.

What to do about RM reporting 100% CPU usage even at idle? I check the "Run HLT command" button, which shows the proper usage % to RM and it adjusts accordingly, with Automatic profile working as it should.

This shows 100% usage to task manager? Isn't the fact that task manager says 100% harmful? Or does RM just "trick" into thinking it is running at 100% and it is completely fine/safe?

Just need this one area cleared up

EDIT: above post came while I was reading all the other pages... sorry for essentially repeating the question. But it does appear this concerns people

needledik, maybe put an EDIT to this on first page?

Read the RMClock Help file. It says that HLT will cause Task Manager to "read" at 100%. So who cares! The RM Clock Monitor tab reports the correct CPU usage. There are a LOT of testiments here to RM Clock working, and none "that I'm aware of" that RM Clock caused a meltdown or implosion. As always, proceed at your own risk.

Using RMClock 1.5 on a Acer 8003 with PM 1.6 Banias. I've been using this for awhile but the laptop keeps randomly restarting. I've run prime95 for a few hours at .732 without problems, but then I'll be surfing and the machine restarts. I've gradullay upped the min to .796 and no problems so far, but I haven't used it too much on this setting yet. The max voltage that is stable for me is 1.26.

These voltages are much higher than what people are getting with the Dothan machines. Is this a function of the Banias chip? What are the results from other Banias users?

LDRunner,

I had the same problem on mine as well (1.7 Banias). I stopped using RMClock for the time being as I couldnt figure out what was causing the random restarts. The only thing I noticed about the restarts is that they really are random. No high CPU usage one time, high the next. I restarts at truly random times. The lowest I was able to get with mine was 1.26 as well.

Update:
Certain dvd's can't handle min VID of .700. PowerDVD pro freezes, up it one step to .716 and it was fine.

Is there any benefit to downclocking the GPU? Does it significantly lower heat output or improve battery life?

Is ATITool or RadClocker better?

OK when Im undervotling my Z71V, should i set the AC profile to maximal, or the Battery profile to maximal? Or both maybe?

You should set both to "automatic management"
o...in the instructions the original poster put, he said to set it to Maximal, and do the max voltage, then set to minimal and do the minmum voltage. man im confused....when im trying to get it to a good voltage, do i set to maximal, then minimal, or do i set both to automatic management?
He's saying set the max VID first, the the min VID. The profile management you set you have have fully test out the VID for both the max and min points, For you it should probably be around, .736 and 1.100, because you have a 2g processor.

NOTE TO EVERYONE!!!

So over the past week of real world multi tasking I've found a couple concerns:

1. Certain DVD's can't handle a min VID of .700, Cyberlink Power dvd Pro will freeze up, to solve this I upped the min VID one step.

2. I love that the fans hardly go on anymore, even during some light gaming, MVP 2005, but the problem is, the I6000 only has one fan and air doesn't travel well from one side to the next if the fans are off.
Meaning that, although the cpu is running nice and cool, 36-38c with no fans on, the gpu, dimm and hd temps have all gone up. I never saw the dimm temp go past 53c before undervolting. Now after DVD watching, with a cooling pad w/out fans on my lap, the dimm temps got to 58c. The HD and GPU temps are nominal.
My question is does anyone know what a safe running temp is for ram? I think under 60c should be ok.
To solve this I just turn on my fanGUI at and earlier value.

Well when stress testing the max voltage, you want to ensure that it's using the maximal profile, so if you're plugged in set AC to maximal obviously, if on battery, set battery...when testing min voltage, use minimal profile.... but after you're done testing both, yes you want it to auto management.

Sorry to bring this up again, but....

1) When I test MAX VID, do I set both A/C and Battery Profiles to Maximal? (and do I set both to Minimal for MIN VID?)

2) When testing the MAX VID, do I drop the MIN VID to the minimum right off the bat, and lower the MAX VID one step at a time? (same for testing MIN VID)

Thanks to anyone who can clear this up!

problem

everytime i change the maximal VID and click apply in rightmark cpu clock utility it goes back to the default highest value. (1.340V in my case)
can anyone help?
set min first
awesome post needledik.

didnt make a huge dif on my idle temp. but theres a 10c diff under load. 54c to 44c (max) (pm 1.8).

These are my settings, it has run fine for 8 hours with the torture test,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-S460.
Centrino M Processor @ 1.7Ghz Dothan
Maximal
Multiplier is @ 13.0x
Voltage is 0.924V
Minimal
Multilier is @ 6.0x
Voltage is @ .700V

But I think my notebook is running too hot. 56.0c (AM I? Help!)

This is awsome, I was just wondering how to do this. BTW where's the sticky? Does anyone know how much different this is for undervolting a P-4?
