I have the 6800 Ultra and it runs great , but from what I hear the x800 runs half life 2 slightly faster . the 6800 runs doom 3 faster . Hope this helps .

Well, I am surely no expert. That said, before I made my order last Thur, I even asked the AW oline support. They of course refused to recomend one above the other, but did give me a link to a site with some bench mark tests. I wish I could referance that link for you to make your own decision, however I don't have it. I also wish I had a better memory as to exact results.

All that said, I chose to go with the x800, and here is why. If memory serves, both are great cards, with 12 pipelines rather than 16. At this point, the 6800 is running the memory and processor at a 300/300 rate, while the x800 is running the memory at a higher rate, although I don't remember the nubers. Of course the bus speed of the memory and processor are not the only determining factors, although they do make a differance. It seems that in all the game 3d benchmarks I looked at, the x800 had a slight to moderate advantage IE frame rate over the 6800. The only exception was Doom 2003 where the 6800 did out preform the x800 by a moderate margin (please remember this is from memory, and I suggest you reseach futher on your own). As I am not a doom player, but more of a Ravensield, EQ2, and patiently awaiting Battlefield 2/GR2 player, I chose to go with the x800.

I would also like to add that in the benchmark tests, they eluded to a plan to unlock the 6800 bus speeds, and that if the 6800 bus was increased to match the x800, it would compeat well, and likly even out preform the x800. I ordered my system based off the hardware avaliable at the time of order, and for my useage, the x800 was the choice for me. Now I am not one of those ATI or Nvidia fanatics. I personally just want the best preformance for the money I spend. Hope this helps some.

I didn't just like to leave you the info above, so here are a few links that might help you out.

hands down x800 destroys the 6800.

Why/How is it hands down?

Because i own both and can see a difference

read the reviews on them if you'd like

but, which card gets your more bang for your $$... ? id say the gforce

Depends which one really....DDR2 or DDR3 etc...

The new 6800 vs 800 cards are the DDR3 versions and the below linked review indicates that the newer DDR3 Nvidia is the way to go....

Plus only the newer cards are being used now...

see this article: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1768257,00.asp

Hope this helps......

Well nVIDIA makes better mobile GPU's hands down then ATI. This wasn't always true, however, the shift has leaned toward nVIDIA with the DDR3 6800 Go and the 6800 Go ULTRA. The ULTRA mobile GPU is so fast, its benchmarking faster then most desktop nVIDIA GPU's.

HL2=ATI, DOOM3=nVIDIA. Now if you got the BIG bucks, nVIDIA SLI is unbeatable. So nVIDIA is technically the fastest GPU out there with their blistering SLI technology.

ATI makes the best SINGLE GPU card config in my opinion. However that's even questionable because the 6800 Ultra desktop GPU is a scorcher as well.

Hoped that helped...

Exactly!

Ditto...

Basicly what it boils down to, is to read all the reviews you can find to see how well each card did in the games/genre that you play. Otherwise, flip a coin. You wouldn't be going wrong with either.

I'm using and prefer the Radeon X800XT PE and I like the fact they have a 12 drivers per year policy (one a month). You can usually count on at least a few that boost performance especially with their newer cards. They'll also put out "hot"fixes and betas when appropriate. And it kicked ass in the games/genres I prefered.

I had a Radeon 9700 Pro for the longest time, man!, that was one, long lasting, kickass card. Then a X800 Pro (put in wifes machine). So I'm comfortable with ATI and the fact they try every month to make your card better.

Thanks for your input guys

I have decide to order the MJ-12m 7700 with the 7700 NVIDIA Quadro FX Go 1400

It has a 3.6 gig processor and 2 gig ram so it should be pretty good

Hope you are not planning to game with that card.

The Quadro is NOT a gaming GPU. If you want to game, get the 6800. If you do intense graphics processing and the like, then get the quadro.

Rule of thumb: Newer does not always mean 'better'.
