3dMark05 Scores!

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

I'm a noob when it comes to benchmarks so ya'll wanna give me some help? I just got 3Dmark05 but i have no idea if i should change settings or what i should do to get an accurate score out of it? Also, whats a good score for the system i've got in my sig? I got 2770 last night but i'm sure the test didnt run properly, plus that score seems a bit wacky!

Let me know whats an average score for my system and how i can get an accurate result!

Cheers

First off:

To get a repeatable and baseline test, do the following EVERYTIME you run any benching software.

1. Click on START...RUN...type in msconfig.. goto STARTUP.
2. Note what's checked off and then click DISABLE ALL.
3. APPLY and reboot.
4. Once rebooted, run 3dmark05 at DEFAULT settings. That's your default score.

<I may have left something out or made a mistake, anybody feel free to correct me.>

Regarding what's a good score for your system, I haven't a clue....but don't worry, somebody'll be along soon enough to help!

Also turn all your setting for your graphics over to performance instead of quality. that will allow it to run faster overall. basically we are going for the least amount of stuff required to run in the back ground and the card going as fast as possible, run atleast three times to make sure you don't have a fluke, as they oddly happen.

I'll have to do the msconfig thing and re-run the benchies

Make sure you go back and turn on your virus scan and whatever is important afterward. Let us know how it works

When i run bench on my system, i don't stop service, etc..

All services are running and my antivirus is running.

I don't think u close all services and shutdown the antivirus when u play, so why do u run a bench in other condition than when u play ? It has no interest since the bench is false.

BTW, that's just my opnion... But i think it's better to bench with same condition as u play

Well, when I play my AV and firewall is down and all unecessary services are turned off...Google for Black Viper's website and read through his site on what services can safely be turned off and what should be left in place...you will be amazed.

I just looked the site and found nothing important.

I don't think that stopping "automatic updates" or "computer browser" will affect the perf of the system...

Well, I found it pretty useful, it does make a marked difference. And a nice clean tight system is always something to aim for.

But..different strokes for different folks as they say.

I kinda agree with Red on this one....

Why have services running such as Anti Virus and Automatic updates when you're not even on the internet.....Why play with these running in the background anyway.....unless you're playing online, then I'd suggest leaving anti-hacker, anti-virus apps running......

When you want performance, tweak the PC to what ever Apps you're running....

Benching is kinda like racing. You tweak a race car for exactly that purpose, take all the stuff you dont really need out and have only whats really necessary.........auto tuning/PC Tuning...

Like Red says...everybody to their own..............

oh red, your killing me...another infamous red quote "some people just like to play for the other team, or just enjoy switch hitting"

I just love teeing them up so the switch-hitters like you and Mike can go crazy!
