PowerMac & Linksys WRT54GS Wrls G Router-Compatible?

I stopped worrying about switching and just ordered a 15" PowerMac (1.67 Ghz, 80 GB HD, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth) from Amazon and got a $150 rebate. A pretty good deal. Can I use the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router with the Mac? I want to network my desktop, a printer or 2, and of course the Mac. I'd rather not buy the Airport Express or Extreme if I don't have to.

I'm not sure why I keep referring to PowerBooks as PowerMacs. Duh. Maybe wishful thinking, maybe newbism, on the forum and with Macs. Please excuse.

it should. the only thing i'd recommend is to avoid the various "turbo" models of the various brands. u'd be better off w/ just a standard G router, as apple's airport won't be able to take advantage of the turbo settings, not much unlike how other brands aren't able to take advantage of the turbo settings on other brands' equipment. i.e.-linksys and dlink are not interoperable @ 108mb/s

congrats on your purchase! let me know if u have any questions about it.

I'd avoid linksys if at all possible. Their history of compatiblity with the airport line is not good. D-Link would be a better bet.

Apple Airport: 802.11b
Apple Airport Extreme (what you have): 802.11g

So any router that follows the 802.11b or g standard and does not require a Windows specific configuration program will work fine. I've configured Linksys, DLink, Netgear and Xincom routers with Safari just fine on my Powerbook.

Here's my me too..

Powerbook G4/800 w/Airport (802.11b) and 1.25ghz w/Airport Extreme (802.11G), iBook G3 dual USB w/Airport (802.11b), all worked without a hitch with my Linksys WRV54G WAP. You can configure it from any browser, so right from the Mac, and you can even update the firmware from a Mac browser, (although you can't do it wirelessly, you have to do it wired.. but that's true regardless of the OS you're using..)

I have the WRT54G and it works perfectly.

I have three PC's, an iBook, two G5s and one G4 all on the network. 3 of the Macs are wireless using the Airport Card. Also, I have had numerous people with Powerbooks come by and easily access the network.

No issues whatsoever with the Macs.
