Travelmate 8104 Temperature

Please post your system's temperature. My acer runs at 49C at normal. When I play Act of War it goes up to 79C and eventually it shut down itself when I've played it for too long. Does anyone have experience this?

Thanks! So i'm not the only one. It's kind of annoying when you are in a middle of the game and the machine shutdown automatically -.-"

Intel website states Pentium-M thermal spec 100ºC. Check it out @ http://processorfinder.intel.com/scr...+on+selections, so that temp should not be a problem.

However if your note is shutting down you may have an issue. It happened to mine and I removed the original thermal paste (was a mess) and put ArticSilver 5. Now is better than brand new. Temp for Pentium 4 processor regular apps (office, internet) 40 to 45ºC and gaming 60 - 65ºC.

Gaming on Wow I'm 72-74C max settings or 70-72C SpeedSwitch control. "Normal" I'm 46-48-52-54C depending.

Edit: I have gamed for hours and not gone over 75, and never shut down.

Go here, http://dssc3031.ece.cmu.edu/~tamaru/...erreadme-e.htm and follow the link at the bottom to a Japanese page where you can do the actual download.

My gaming temp is about 83C and normal usage temp is about 60 when SpeedswitchXP is on max. I also have CPUIdle running but I don't think it works with the pentium M. I think this is pretty hot but I don't know if it's bad or if there is anything I can do about it. My P4 on the other hand which is a 2.6 @ 2.8 is running nicely at 29/30C office and 50-54C for gaming so I guess temps vary from cpu to cpu. Tempting to change the thermal paste but I don't know how.

Pentium M has Heat resistance upto 100 C above that it just shuts down

But i guess prolonged use 70-80C temp is bad for CPU

Have any tried changing HSF unit...or will ArticSilver 5 do the trick??

My experience with using ArcticSilver in Travelmate is that at best it will allow you to shave off 1 extra degree if any compared to regular paste.

But... It is really possible in your original/shipped laptop to have improperly applied thermal paste. I discovered that in my TM8003 when replacing original Pentium-M with Dothan version.

I also think that it voids your warranty.

Arg, I wish I had not looked at this thread. I installed mobilmeter and get 79C gaming at full settings, and 44C for the disk. Idle its 46-55C and 43C disk. I've played some very long 6+ hour sessions in WoW since getting the 8104, and its not hiccupped once, so I guess its not a problem.

The disk number looks really high to me, and seeing a 79C temp for the CPU just blows me away. I'm used to seeing 50-60C temps on desktop CPU's (although using much larger, louder cooling solutions and 3-4 case fans).

Bah, one more thing to worry about.

I'm still keeping an eye out for hard facts on sustained high-temp effects in Pentium Ms, specifically ours though THAT data is probably not available yet. We seem to be consistently running during gaming anywhere from 65ish to low and high 70s or more. If it's not "good" for the chip, Acer and Intel gonna' be buying us some new chips and lappies before tooo long. Keep on posting and if anyone stumbles across real data on P-Ms by all means post it.

My guess is that the Dothan will last at least as long as I have the laptop even running at 80c. Realistically, I'll get the bug to upgrade to a dual core model or a model with whatever the newer/greater/cooler 3D chipset it within 3 years.

But, that is a LOT of heat for the heat pipes to carry across the system board to the single fan. It also means that all of the other components are having to operate in a hotter environment, raising the temps for the HDand wifi card.

I also think that checking the thermal paste might be a good idea. How do you disassemble an 8100 to get to the cpu, gpu and heatsinks?

darn, reading these posts makes me want to get the extend warranty T_T
post #16 of 21
well, even the new prescotts from intel are heat puppies, yet though people have seen them get up to 75degrees from what i have read with no problems over prelonged use.
though i would be more worried in a laptop , which such compact spaces etc. i dont game got the home pc for that. but my temps without power supply remain a study 41-43 degrees....

but i would love as many of you would a follow up from intel etc on the heat of these processors, actually i would like one from acer, with prelonged use..

though I do recommend the extended warranty just in case!

I think the culprit is cheap the HSF used by acer , since Pentium-M genarally dispates only 21w they might have underestimated the need for cooling system

BTW: in dfi test of dothan it runs at 45-55 with good hsf even when 2ghz is over clocked

notebook cooler??

With the heat issues we are having or not having , has anyone looked into a notebook cooler? I have one from targus but this one pulls air away from the bottom of the laptop? The reason I don't use it because it seems to make the laptop fan work harder since there are air intakes on the bottom side of the acer 8104. Any thoughts? Any one seen a notebook cooler that blows up to the bottom of notebook?

I have a Bytecc NC-500 which blows air ON the bottom of the notebook. It makes the bottom of my 8104 COLD but it makes NO DIFFERENCE in the temps.

What are most ppl's hard drive temperature around? Mine seems to have gone up gradually.
