9300's 6800go use DDR1 or DDR3?

Performance looks great with DDR3, and not-so-great with DDR1.

Anyone know what the 9300 is shipping with?

Ah, that's too bad. It looks like DDR1 is something like half the performance of the DDR3 version, and is well behind ATI X800 performance.

Guess I'll keep looking for my perfect notebook...

Maybe you should try the search button! It was covered like 3 weeks ago.

Why not get the XPS2?

So a score of 3200 on 3DMark05 is "not-so-great"??? I love watching desktop owners struggle to break 1000.

Because it's bigger, heavier, uglier, and a lot more expensive?

Hmm, maybe I've been looking at some bad testing:
http://www.thechannelinsider.com/art...1768947,00.asp

That seems to indicate that the DDR1 version doesn't even come close to keeping up with the X800, and barely scores over 1000 on 3dMark05.

Actually, it's the same size and weight, isn't it? I won't quibble with the 'uglier' and 'more expensive' appellations, as they are opinion and accurate respectively...how can you not look past these failings, however, when it is the closest you'll come to a desktop [non-SLI, of course] system? Puzzling...

EDIT: Also, the 6800Go DDR3 model you are looking at there is clocked at 330/500, whereas the Dell model is clocked 450/550...jacks up the frames quite a bit, yeah?

Plenty of people on this forum have scored 3500+ in 3dmark05 with slight overclocking on their 9300s and some have topped 4000. Don't know where the numbers in that link are coming from, but it looks like the 6800 found in the i9300 is capable of very nice scores.

Hm, interesting, so it sounds like it's a review on old versions of the hardware or something.

Anyway, it's mostly that the 35% off coupon doesn't apply to the XPS2...so I'm looking at getting a pretty well-configged 9300 for about $2K and dealing with my few issues with it (I'd rather not go widescreen, unsure about glossy screen, it's heavier than I'd rally like), or waiting until something better for my wants comes along.

yeah, I can certainly understand the cash differential being a significant XPS2-detractor...I was a poor student up until six months ago, now I'm making bank...quite a difference in my computer-buying habits...six months ago, I'd have been blanketing these forums with questions and tips on how to overclock the living shit out of a 6800Go Non-Ultra! Now I'm [not-so] patiently waiting for my XPS2 and I mean to go ahead and bomb these forums afterward with questions and tips about overclocking the shit out of the Ultra (my goal is SLI-level performance)!

Do it man. I am EASILY getting 3922 in 3DMark05 and have topped out at 4050 with ease. I am scoring in the 9000's on my 3DMark03 so this is a GREAT lappy. The XPS2 will top out over 12000 in 03 and 5200-5500 in 05 so my lappy is not in that category but it is in shouting distance. Hey, with the 35% off, it is worth it to be in shouting distance of the best gaming laptop available. Check my sig. With the 35% off (they refunded the difference) I got mine for a cool $1844.70. Not a bad deal at all... As for weight it tops out at 8.5lbs and is way less bulky than my old Inspiron 9100. Also, the screen real estate is great and the build quality is solid. Get it...

Well everyone here who benches it scores in the low 3000's

Edit: Even though the XPS2 is heavier, it is only ~1 lb heavier, still 4 lbs less than the Alienware 7700 which has a X800/6800go, both of which are below the Ultra in the XPS2

huh???? Did they have the 6800 clocked at 100/200 or some low number like that?

Let me repeat my score again...

3D Mark 05: 4209

3D Mark 03: 9821

Ok, any questions?

You also have to consider that you pay $199 for a GeForce 6800 Go 256 MB on Dell's site. Geforce 6800 Ultra goes for like $400+ and the X800 goes for $400+ as well. So, I think considering the price you pay, the performance you get with the "plain old" Geforce 6800 is awesome. I paid $200 for a Radeon 9800 128MB (a couple months ago) and the Geforce 6800 blows it away! For a laptop to blow the doors off most desktops, that's very good.

LOL Are you sure about that 4200 3dmark2005 score Shinji_U? According to the above statement all the 9300 users are getting scores in the low 3000's only...
The low 3000's come straight out of the box with no overclocking. However, the 6800 in the 9300 appear to be very overclockable. I have had mine to 360/775 and it benchmarks 44xx.
