Did you notice much battery improvement running lower voltage?
THe laptop seems to be running fine, but i sometimes get a delay from gaming on Starcraft and when im just running regular windows. Could this be a harddrive problem? I also hear like a static noise coming out of the laptop below the keyboard. The static noise is not very loud, but it is like a beeeeeee sound.

PS. The delay sometimes could get annoying, not sure if i should send it back to have it checked out?

I'd put it differently: MemoryStick media sucks (huge compatibility issues, too many various types...)
Funny, I've been using Memory stick for a long time, used them with over 5 different card reader overs 6 differenct devices and I have never once had any problems with them other then with my Acer.

None for me. Still getting about 3 1/4 hrs on batteries with various power savings. With 1 primary backup battery this is plenty for my own purposes.

I've been through 3 Clie PDA, 2 Sony laptops, 2 Sony still cameras, 2 Sony camcorders, 1 ATRAC player (MemoryStik based). Some devices were designed for older MS and won't work with Pro/Duo ever. Some could be upgraded by using new drivers/firmware. Then there is difference between MS media made by Sony, Lexar, Sandisc, the latter being probably most tricky when it comes to compatibility. It also depended on when you got media: during promotional period when it's 50% off (cheap) but can be incompatible or later when it's compatible but more expensive.

Oh, and all these MS standard (purple), with switched banks (128+128), MagicGate (white), Pro, Duo...

So far PDA gave me least trouble.

Well,

I've gone through 3 different cameras with MS. Sony DSC-T3, Sony DSC-T1 and I've used the Sony DSC-V1. Other then camera's I have went through an older model clie, the Sony PSP, the Sony NW-MS70D. Im sure I have used more but I cant think of it right at this moment. In terms of laptops that use the memory stick pro. I have used my familiy's Sony K series Vaio, my Asus S5NE, and my Acer 8103. Regarding another time I have used it is when I was on my friends M6N.

That's not a problem with the cards. That's a problem with the readers.

When it comes to flash media I dont use anything other then the original manufactured media. So I cant give you anything here as it doesnt concern me.

Sometimes you gotta wonder why you get things of for 50% off. If I got a laptop for 50% off I would seriously wonder.

If the world was painted in all black, the world would complain. When the world is painted in many different colours the people still complain. I dont understand why people complain when they have a wide selection of choices.

Anyway I dont know what kind of faulty sticks you've been using. But the Acer reader is the only one I have ever had trouble with. Considering I can use this same stick on my S5NE flawlessly and on my friends M6N without any problem - it is NOT the memory stick's fault it is the Acer's. Why the heck would they advertise "Memory stick compatible" when that's not the case? That's absolutley stupid. If they ship a product that's advertised to work then it better damn hell work. In short it's not a problem with the Memory stick, it's the reader itself.

Finally deciding to return this 8104. It's just not worth my $2182. Gonna get a refund on this thing. It is an extremely slow laptop. I am just running AIM and winamp and i am experiencing really bad lag. Even if i run aim alone it has a bad lag. I am wondering whether i got a faulty laptop because i hear the buzzing sound from the AC adapter. ALthough it is not very loud, but i put my air next to it and i hear it. I play starcraft on it which isn't even a 3D game, i experience frequent delays. I thought a 2.0 PM is comparable to a 3.2-3.5 GHZ Pentium. I got mine from PCNation. Does any1 know the # to call for an RMA? And do you get a refund for the shipping fee? I mean, it is their fault for sending me a faulty laptop. They are not very honest because i waited for 1 month for this laptop. I didn't mind the wait, however, i made sure to frequently call to make sure if they got a new shipment of laptops. They tell me it is backordered and the next shipment will be April 6th. So i got fed up and decided to cancel on Marh 28 and suddenly they say they got one in stock. They send me that one. Now this is the faulty one i received. Perhaps, someone sent this back for refund and i happened to call and get this laptop in my hands. I'm not sure if a replacement will even bring me a better laptop. But this laptop, specifically mine, is not even standing up against a simple game like Starcraft, that requires like a Pentium I to run it. Very dissapointed in this laptop. If any1 experienced the same experience, please let me know what i can do? Should i call back PCnation or call Acer directly?

Re

Hi JFvergara,

Can you provide the link to the download for the MS driver?

Thanks

bcloud99, your problems is not your laptop but AIM. The new verison became a spyware hoggin resources displaying ads and destorying performance. I had a similiar problem on my desktop. Just get rid of it and get alternatives.

Thanks
It's somewhere in the Acer Support Section in these forums. Run a search.

I'll be ordering myself an 8104 Monday (honestly, I can't wait a day past that to have it on the way), and I promise you'll all hear exactly how happy I am with it. I'm seriously so pumped! I'm glad the prices finally dropped on these (thanks Acer, for bringing out the Ferrari!).

I have had mine for about a week and a half now and I really have nothing good I can say about it although I could go on all day long about what I think is wrong with it I won't because I would prob get flamed so I will keep my opinions to myself.

I guess I've had mine for about four months now, and it's been running almost continuously during that time (between work usage during the day and downloading torrents at night).

I've had no issues with it at all, it's been a rock solid performer and it's got both the power and portability I needed. I commute with it daily to and from work, and I play WoW at 1680x1050 at great framerates, so it's a perfect blend of weight, battery life and gaming performance.

I guess my only complaint would be that I wish it was as pretty as the Apple Powerbooks. It's just not a very stylish system (no one ever says 'ooh' looking at it) but the performance/price is unbeatable.

My 8104 died a horrible death after 5 months of perfect operation. I guess its the power supply or system board, but the system started to randomly:

1. power on, but fail to boot, not even getting to the BIOS splash screen
2. bluescreen in windows after 4-5 minutes then proceed to problem (1)
3. lock during shutdown then proceed to problem (1)

Anyway, its back at acer now, and I am on pins and needles that the laptop does not come back worse off than I sent it in (refurb parts, scratches, damaged screen, etc).

If your willing to spend some money, you can paint it or order the Ferrari chassis. I'm waiting for when Acer spare parts has some Ferrari cases. I tried calling them the other day but they said that it's so new that they dont have any spare cases lying around. I'll call back in a couple of weeks...if not I'm just going to order the case and paint it cherry red.
