Possibly DJ'ing Prom

Aight, so... I'm junior class rep, and the seniors are tight for money, right? Well they are going to pay some guy (whos music nobody likes anyway, and always does dances) $300 to be DJ... Now part of it is going to be some seniors doing live preformances, so I was wondering what I would need to pull this off with my laptop for a lot less.

1. The bands will have amps, which I should be able to link? and then not have to buy speakers... The only thing I don't know anything about is vocals, can those be played through the same amps or is something else necessary? (again, the bands probably have them, just need to know what its called if its something different so I don't sound stupid).

2. Thinking of just buying (for myself anyways) and Echo Indigo for sound, the only thing is do I need the DJ version with two outs or can I get the regular version and be able to do recordings also.

3. Program needed to line up songs? Or just drop into like an itunes playlist or something and pause-unpause when needed, lol?

4. Soundboard (is that what its called?) to deal with sound levels out of the computer and then again out of the various mic's/pickups of the bands. Should hopefully be the only expense to the class, as I was gonna buy and Indigo anyway...

Just thought it'd be a cool thing to do with a bud and save some $ in the process . Our HS is sorta big, prolly 200 ppl MAX. Thanks,

The only big Problem here is that you cutting off the main dude.Your offering your services Cheaper. Thats a low down and your Dissing this dude at the same time.Sorry if I said something you might not want hear. Being in the entertainment business for so long,I dont mind the competion,But when people step on others toes,it hurts the entire industry.

See, the other thing is this guy is our school tech guy. And you can ask anyone he HATES doing these, but he's the only person... So he would probably love us taking over. Furthermore, he's retiring after this year too.... I'm not trying to cut off the main dude, but its kinda in a lose-lose situation.... He just does this almost as part of his job at the school, but wouldn't if he didn't have to.... But yeah, I totally understand what your saying, and is a very good point.

Well then in that case,Just try to inherit the gig like we say when we want to discreetly take over,Ask to help him out.you know, make a dignified move.He might set you up for a lot of work in the future.Thats the goal.

sweet. thats actually a really good idea, thx. Quick query tho, what about speakers then? Can I use the bands' amps? I am assuming I could just use an adaptor to changeover my 1/8" computer audio to the 1/4" and then plug into my step dads mixer, then output to the R an L and split the R and L to however many amps there would be (can you get Y splitters for 1/4"?).... Or do I need to get some other kind of speakers for just music and vocals? Thanks,

To be specific,My man J.D. had an output coming out of his sound card in a Y splitter, into the stereo input of a cheap dj mixing board but of course, feeding it to a 1000 watt house amp system with Bose speakers. So friggin loud we had to wear ear plugs.
