Does anyone here have this notebook?

If so:

1) With an 8-Cell, how is the battery life? (with wifi on/off)

2) How bad is the screen flex?

3) How is the overall build quality?

4) Are the any issues I should be aware of?

Hi,

sorry for being so late in this reply, I've been out on a month long holiday..

Now i'm in a position to share my expoerience with the Acer 1681WLMi during this trip. Since I was "holidaying", my computing needs consisted of mainly gaming, music, and some videos...

The hotel I was staying had good WiFi Coverage, and I got it up and running in almost no time, (without the staff support, I might add), the transfer speeds were quite good, furthermore, I had replaced the original 4-cell battery that came from Acer America, with an 8 cell one, so I got around 4.5-5 hours of continuous usage with 30% screen brightness + WiFi, i'd like to add here that this time will be reduced drastically, if you're playing games for instance, I run this ar 466Mhz after speed down...

Screen Flex, sadly is present, however, it's quite easy to get used to, just use both hands to "open" the flap, no problems after a while

The Build quality is quite good, considering it's plastic, there's NO squeaking, or visibly "compromising" components in the body

The only other issue is that after around 3 hours of gaming, the right hand side tends to get a little warm, but since this is the hard disk area, i can't attribute this to the lappie..... ( I got the 80Gb 7200 rpm, so it does tend to get hotter, although i dont recall this effect with the original 60gb one....)

hope this helps, ask me anythign else you'd like to know....

ok guys, replies to your queries

1. get any third party speed switching software, you can change to any level you need (ofcourse step size has to be maintained) (forgot to mention, you can even switch down to 150mhz, incase al you're doing is reading ebooks, or browsing)

2. dood, 60GB default 4200 rpm is TOO DAMN SLOW for gaming. ( but now i figure, 3 seconds late is better than 5 Degrees hotter)

3. I dunno the cost of battery now, I got from Acer Dealer with the lappie itself, on day 0. Thanks to this forum, I was well prepared in advance for the change, though I'm yet to bring myself to get 1 GB RAM.....

Hope this helps....

Could you please mention which s/w you used ...

I have tried RMclock and speed step xp the min speed on both was 600Mhz
I look for a s/w which can drop speed to less than 600Mhz

"I got around 4.5-5 hours of continuous usage with 30% screen brightness + WiFi"

Wow! I can only get about 2.5 with my 1681.

"after around 3 hours of gaming"

Heh, I wish I could get that much.
