dell tech support agent here - Page 4

hey wordhouse888, welcome to the forums. I have a quick question. I have found the DCSE website and for $175 you can register and takes tests for all DCSE certifications. If I were to pursue this would I be able to get a special number and call in part orders myself, not having to deal with home tech support? I'm not sure if you would know about it or not but I thought I would ask.

Is there any way to order the Thai keyboard from Dell? I.e., do the two keyboards have different part numbers? I'd love to get a spare.

Also, are the 9300/XPS2 keyboards identical to the 9200 keyboards? I noticed that Dell gave them different part numbers.
I ordered a keyboard replacement for my 600m system and gave them the part number 4M394 as opposed to the usual 1M722 that's written on the keyboard. I did that because the 4M394 was listed as the keyboard number for my system that received a sturdier keyboard. Almost two months went buy after the order was placed and I'm still "InProduction"

So dellbert I suggest you look at the detailed parts list of your systems and compare the keyboard numbers.

Yeah, I did that, and Dell doesn't distinguish between the two parts. Oh well, I figure I've got a 50% chance of getting the one I want if I order. I'm used to those kind of odds with Dell

wordhouse888...my question seems to have gone unnoticed so I'll ask again:
any idea if and when the iXPS2 will be available in asia?
Asking this makes me feel like a moron, but what exactly is the premiere warrenty? Is it the second option when ordering from the web page that tacks on about 120USD?

Well to put it simply, the techs you get in premiere warranty support are the ones more expirenced and more knowledgable than regular support. another thing is that the wait time for your call to be answered would be significantly shorter, around 5 mins or less(provided that you enter the express service code).

Yup, the option for it is on the second page when ordering on-line. 120USD is for 4 years, i think..

Can we add the premiere after the fact?

You can upgrade to premiere warranty as long as the system is still currently within the regular warranty. I.E. a system with an expired regular service contract can't get premiere support. there are other exceptions but generally that's the way it goes...

The last time there was a Dell Rep on the forum everyone drove him away with over load of questions. How long will this one hang around?

Hey, wordhouse, we heard rumors of a new 19-inch lappy from Dell a while back. Can you confirm those rumors and give us any solid info?

Hey, wordhouse888,

In your first post, you said you might be able to give us inside info on Dell stuff, so I was wondering, does Dell have any plans for a small system with 128 MB video card within the next year? I need a notebook for college, and I'll probably wait until the second semester to get one. I was debating between the 600m and the 9300. The 9300 seems to big (not weight, but actual size) to carry around, but the 600m doesn't have the video card that I want. I heard that it can play games well, but I'm still not sure. Any word on what's coming up? I feel like it's time for a replacement for the 600m, because it's been a while since it's been out, and the Latitude D610 is out, so... I understand if you don't know or aren't allowed to reveal anything.

This thread is getting a little off topic!

n e wayz I got my 9300 on friday and the WXGA+ is the LG for sure. I see what they mean by sparkly although it is not enough to make me go through dell CS to get a different screen.no light leakage no dead pixels colours are vibrant.

When watching DVD's it looks absolutely fantastic. Havent played any games yet becuase I am at home for easter and not at school and I do not have any games here .

no.

DCSE means you are certified to work on their machines without voiding the warrenty, and it gives you access into the DCSE website so you can see how to disassemble their products.

i think if you mention to the tech support your dcse certified, they'll ship you the parts so you can repair it yourself. (thats what they do with me, but im also a contractor for QualxServ and do their warrenty repair work anyways)

Usually the tech sheets for new systems are given to us about a month before the release of the system and right now we haven't gotten anything new yet. They could in release a 19" system in the future but not in a month.

Hey Wordhours - cool to see you here on the forum.

I have an XPS2 on order which should be here next week and I am very concerned about the machines LCD display. So far, all the people who have recieved their XPS Gen2's have gotten the inferior sparkling LG display which is far removed from having any resemblance to the 700M display. Having had several bad displays on my original XPS Gen1 system, I know firsthand how much of a PITA it is to get a replacement LCD.

One of my main concerns is that every replacement LCD I recieved for my XPS gen 1 system were refurbs and all had their own little quirks, be it dead pixels, significant light leakage, or ghosting. Say in a worst care scenario my XPS Gen 2 arrives and the screen is not acceptable, is there any way to request a new LCD instead of a refurbished display. After all, I paid for a new machine with a "Truelife" glossy display that I was assured by several techs to be the same technology as the beautiful LCD on the 700M. A Sparkley, dim, unevenly lit LCD is not going to cut it.

I know I could go for the whole system exchange route, but even then your chances of getting the superior Samsung display is iffy at best. Why does dell do this to their customers? We all paid the same amount for our machines, why do some get better quality displays than others? It is very frustrating for us customers to say the least. The fact that Dell is using these inferior displays for their flagship laptop is a very bad call in my humble opinion.

I read that Dell is only using Samsung LCD's now ? Is this true. Tell us what you know about this. Please.

The problem with having the LCD replaced is that replacement will just be refurbs. but there is a way to get a non-refurb replacement LCD (provided that the system is still under 21 days) however your going to have to install the LCD yourself, the onsite tech cant do it for you. but looking at our spare parts list now, all i see are samsung branded ones for the XPS2.
