Dell 700m memory slots

Hi
can anyone tell me wether both ram slots on 700m are accessible
cause i currently have 2 256Mb 2700 dimms
but wanted to put one 512 3200 dimm instead
my processor is P-M 1.6 G 725

So can anyone please tell me wether this can be done

One slot is in the bottom and is accessed by one screw and one slot is under the keyboard. The dell support site has a diagram about how to access the one under the keyboard. Let me know if you need more help with it.

(PS if you don't mind, could you tell me if your battery time remaining estimate changes when you change the brightness of your 700m? Mine doesn't and I'm worried I might have a broken current sensor.)

PPS, the link is here:

Under 'Installing An Upper Memory Module'

Good luck!

you do know that if putting in a 3200 ram into the 700m it'll still run at 2700

Xarthan, will it actually run at 2700? My understanding was that the 855gme chipset will run at 2100 but that somehow the video card could use the shared portion of the ram at 2700. Do you know what this means? (I read this at the intel.com centrino chipsets page)

thanks!

well from what i remember, correct me if i'm wrong... 2700 = 333mhz and 2100=266mhz and the 700m runs at 333mhz

thank you for the link will try it out
but have one question. if i change the upper module would it void my warranty
also i correct me if i a wrong, the P-M 1.6 725 has 400MHz FSB right?
so i can use PC3200 (400Mhz) memory right?

Your front side bus question is a good one.
The old days of the 845/865/875 desktops with their 266/333/400 mhz ram and the new chipsets with the 400/533 mhz buses aren't the same.
The 700 has a 400 bus which translates to a pc2700/333 mhz speed max and the 533 bus in the new I6000 etc takes the ddr2533 ram.

Who has done this-it looks like alot of work for the uncomfortable with new tasks type of people.
Also, if ordered with 256 is the installed ram under the keyboard or easily accessible from the slot cover?

DDR400 (aka PC3200) RAM in the 700m will only run at DDR333 (PC2700) but it may run at a lower latency (CL 2.0 vs CL 2.5) which is a good thing.

Get the DDR400 if it costs the same or almost the same as DDR333.
