Inspiron 9300 Review by MadDawg514

I finally recieved my 9300 today and I've decided to write my own review of this laptop. Note: I will be writing this review from the laptop.

First, I'd like to start off by posting my specs:

1.6 Ghz processor
512 RAM
256 6800 GO
Intel wireless 2915
40 GB 5400 RPM Hard drive
DVD-rom/CD-rw drive
WUXGA w/ truelife

That's all the important stuff.

My first impression of it when i got it out of the box was "MAN, that thing is huge!" It is a very big laptop. This is my first laptop and I don't think i was expecting the 17 inch to be so monstrous but it is big. But i'm ok with that. This computer is definitely NOT for everyday traveling. Next, the oh so controversial LCD. I really like the screen. I wouldn't have noticed the tiny amount of light leakage at the bottom had it not been for this forum but it doesn't bother me...it is very minimal and when I am not on a black screen, I can't even see it. One thing that does bother me about this laptop...all of the small images such as the start menu icons...they seem fuzzy, even in it's native resolution. I can't seem to get them to look normal. My next observation was when surfing the web on the wide screen, there is about 3 inches of wasted space on both sides of the webpage. Anyway, I will continue this in a second (after i finish Downloading and running 3dmark05) and i will post the results along with the rest of the review.

Well, the 9300 pulled a 2995 on the 3dmark05 without any overclocking. I'm pretty new but that seems pretty good considering the 1.6 pentium m holding it back. Anyway, the Intel 2915 is GREAT. From my house i can pick up four wireless networks that i didn't know were around here with the wireless card i bought for my desktop. I highly recommend the 2915! I've already played a game of Lord of the Ring:Battle for middle earth. I played at ULTRAHIGH setting and the highest resolution possible. The 9300 played it with little to no problems. Next, the keyboard isn't as bad as they make it out to be. I think they could have made the touchpad a little bigger considering the amount of wasted space on the base of the laptop.

A few complaints about dell:

1. Two delay notices later I finally recieved it (slow production)
2. I ordered NO SECURITY...it came with McAfee installed (and it has been a bitch removing it...)
3. I haven't decided if i'm gonna do a clean sweep and format it yet. But from the amount of useless junk on here I may have to.
4. I didn't realize that the outer trim of the 9300 was white. I assumed the entire thing was silver...Still looks nice i guess.

Hello. Please look at these links. Included is a tutorial on how to set up and secure your computer. Below that is a utility to increase the on screen text and icons.

I hoped I helped you. Have fun with your new Notebook.

Hi, just wanted to share some info, got my 9300 yesterday and I got the LCD labelled K9975 also, can you or anyone in this forum tell me who the manufacterer of this LCD is? Is there a way to find out?? Also does DELL refund the money if you return it? How long do you have to return it or replace the LCD if required? ( I have the 3 yr extended warranty plan). Any reply is appreciated. Thanks
