Powerbook G5 - any ETA speculation? (Q2?)

Thread Starter
I was recently googling for any news of a powerbook G5 launch, and apparently the Inquirer has noticed a few things that would lead us to believe there could be a Q2 2005 Powerbook G5 in the works. Does anyone have any data on this?

i doubt it..

maybe the next convention if not then.. maybe pre xmas.. i won't be holding my breath. but if it comes out , and i have the means.. i'm on it!

I'd keep an eye on thinksecret.com for pb g5 rumors. They're usually right on the money with their rumor reports (even when they're getting sued).

i think the g5 powerbooks will be out later this year, maybe the 3rd or 4th quarter.

i am quite sure that the current powerbooks are the last of the g4's

look to Nostradamus, for he has all the answers...

Seriously, I would think a late Q2 since the current g4 line has been recently updated, but only time will reveal the true nature of the G5 PB

i've been waiting for too long...

must....get.....*drools*

loads of people are waiting for a g5 powerbook. i think it is just going to be like the current powerbook line but with the g5 instead of a g4 and maybe a few other bumps.

prolly pic express graphics I would hope, a 6600 Go or something.

FWIW, I'd be very wary of any "premiere edition" G5 PB's - the initial iMac, and tower G5's have had less than steller track records, and I wouldn't want to be the expensive beta tester for a potentially new "clunker", even tho I adore their computers...

Stay on the lean side of the curve for now - you'll thank yourself later...

amen to that. At least wait a month or 6 weeks till after initial reports come in to see if the potential problems are something you can live with.

Personly I wish for a dual core G4 rather than a G5. The G5 simly isn“t a mobile cpu.

Is that a real good graphics card?

I honestly can't see a huge graphics card jump in the next powerbooks. The 9700 seems to work just fine, and I'm using the 64 meg version. Some say Tiger will use up a lot more VRAM, but think about it... if it has problems on the Mini, Apple's bait to switch computer, then there could be problems up ahead for switching. But if not, and that's a 32 meg video card, than a huge jump in video cards really doesn't seem needed.

ibm have been working on smaller g5 chips that use less power you know.

My fingers are crossed for a BLACK titanium version. (Hell, I'm still PC, but for a portable dev system, a lot of us are drooling over Tiger.)

It would be consistent with the new OSX Tiger site theme, anyway...

Ugh...I hate black laptops. I love the aluminium ones because they're such a nice neutral colour.

i have to say, i am a fan of ibm in black , but so far that's it.

God, IBM laptops are the ugliest things. Great little machines, but ugly as hell. They're like the anti-Apple when it comes to industrial design.

first of all, have you ever seen the actual processor of a g5?? they are like 1/3rd of the keyboard on my powerbook 15". thats really big. second, they run very hot right now (the 2.7 has to be water cooled). so i doubt that..unless there is going to be a mobile g5..that this would be very far in the future. also the powerbook would have to be ALOT thicker than 1" which i doubt apple or the consumers will have. but it would be sweet if they made 2 versions of it..1 in black...and 1 in silver. but macs have (except the pismo nad lombardo and wallstreet) been the lighter shades.

peace

Its about twice as good as the 9700. But that point is moot. I really do need to feel if I'm buying a new laptop that I'm getting some vague value for money. Personally I'm sitting here kind of pessimistic about G5's. They run too hot. Personally I think Apple should beat Intel and AMD to the punch and come out with the first dual-core lappy with PCI Express and BluRay drives.

Remember, Apple doesn't make the processors, it's IBM. They are the one's who need to be blamed but I think there's much time left because in my opinion they won't come with a simple G5 but with a dual-core processor. I think that at the end of 2006-mid 2007 all G5's will be replaced by dual-cores.

Just guessing...
