Who is sending their XPS-2 Back?

I'm really thinking about refusing delivery of my XPS-2 on Monday due to the screen issue. I've never seen an example of this sparkle thing, but I don't want to un-box it and then have to box it all back up to send back to dell and pay the shipping. If I'm paying this kind of money for a laptop I don't want ANY SCREEN ISSUES! Also, can anyone recommend another laptop that is similar in specs to the XPS-2 that has a GREAT SCREEN... I will mostly be using it for software development work so the top of the line GFX card is not a requirement.

Why refuse delivery? Open the box, play with it, and if you like it, you're good to go. If you don't like it, abuse it for 21 days, and then send it back.

The next best thing would be a Sager system. If you are not even going to bother with the XPS 2 and refuse it, then check out the Sager 9860. PC Torque (the guys that run this forum) have good deals and are easy to deal with from what I hear.

That said, I still think you should accept delivery and give it a try. Just because some guys aren't 100% satisfied with their screens doesn't mean you won't be. Not only that, if you have decent warranty with your system, you can ask for a replacement kit and Dell will send out a tech to replace it for you.

If I get the LG screen, I'm going to ship the XPS 2 back to Dell and obtain a refund.

seriously i dont see why you wouldnt give it a chance. I got mine thinking the same thing, and really, its not as bad as i thought it would be. you can have dell replace it too until you like the screen you get all for free. im pretty sure that they pay shipping back to them also.

Pretty Silly to refuse delivery because you might have a issue with the LCD.
Maybe you should not leave the house ever again because you might get into a car accident.

I'm wondering if the average Joe user is going to even know what these problems are or notice them. Reading these forums has made me paranoid about my system, but having never seen these issues before, I'm wondering if they're overblown or not. I often wonder how people would react to their new laptops if they'd never read this forum. Having read it, you know you're going to be looking extra closely for problems.

Plus, several 9300 users have been able to contact Dell and have them replace the screen. It's safe to assume that most people would be happy with the XPS2 if they got the Samsung screen. So if you don't, you should be able to have the screen replaced if you're not happy with it (correct me if I'm wrong).

The only other machine that's in the same league performance-wise right now is the 9860, and even if they offered the 6800 Ultra card, I don't think I'd want it. It's just too big and heavy. I want the portability, battery life, and looks of the XPS2. If it means my whites look a little grey, I think I'll just have to live with it.

I also heard you can exchange with a samsung screen, of course, most say to call that in while ordering. Plus some people actually like the sparkle effect. I am hoping that I do!

Yeah, I'd probably keep it but if you get an LG and you don't like it just get a Samsung for it. It is trouble, and you shouldn't have to do it, but that's beside the point. And remember, some people actually don't see anything wrong with the LG and like it a lot. That's just me, though. If you're just casual about getting an iXPS2 and don't care one way or the other about having a computer with its capabilities, then refusing shipment may be the way for you to go.

I think you're being way too paranoid.. You should check out the system for yourself once you get it and then decide!

I know that if i had not read these forums so much, I would never have had a problem with the screen. When you look for something wrong, you will find it, but unless you stare at lots of lcd's daily, you would not notice it.

This is a P4 system. Any systems up there with the XPs that are M-cpu's?

Nope, but you could try the Acer 8104 if you don't mind a less powerful graphics card ATI X700

mine arrives on monday--I will be trying mine out.

it is very very F'd up why you wouldnt unbox it and at least look at. After all this waiting everyone has done and now blow it off? Boxing it up is easy. Dell has simple and efficient packing. A dog could box it back up.

Just give it a chance, dont be bullheaded...

Ive got a Dell 4300, 8100, 8200, XPS Gen 3, 600m, and a lattitude....all top of the line quality. These issues are DEFINETLY overblown in many cases. Im looking at an XPS 2 myself. How is that 2.13ghz PM? Is it worth 300 bucks over the 2.0?

dude believe me, this glossy coating is something new and it is odd looking even on the sony, hp or any other laptop ive seen. im sure dell's is something like their's. maybe its worse, but ill have to see that for myself. im going over to the local CC or BB and seeing them again, this time for a longer time so i have a GOOD idea before the dell arrives.
i have 2 lcds to compare to. one on my 8600 and one sh*tty lcd lying around. they r both the regular matte lcds, so i dont want to shock myself.

Ok, the reason I would refuse the shippment is because I would avoid having to pay to ship it back, not because I was being bull headed. Believe me I want to see for my-self, but I also don't want to have to eat $50.00+ shipping it back to dell. If you refuse shippment you don't have to pay anything. Now for you dell experienced people, when you return to dell within the "trial" time frame do they charge you to ship it back? My experience is that most companies expect you to pay for the shipping.

You can return in the first 21 days for free I believe. This isnt alienware where pennies are being counted and the customer is #2 next to profit.
