I can't find anything that people complain about except for the keyboard. i am thinking of buying the 700m in a month or so... Also how much do you use the lap top, like more than 3 hours a day? this is going to be my main computer so I am worried that i might get fed up with the small screen and the small key board... Do you have any complaints about the computer now that you have used it for a while and have gotten used to it, are you sick of the small screen yet does the keyboard piss you off cause you can't seem to be able to hit the persiod key or anyother key for that matter??

Also what is a CKDSK??? and when you said you got rid of the dell installed crap did you mean you simply reformated the hard drive??

I own a Toshiba Satellite A65, has a dvd burner, 3.2gig P4 512mb ram and a 60Gig hard drive. i don't do any gaming but i do surf the net alot and use a lot of shells. Right now i am happy with my toshiba but feel like i am missing out on the portability hence i want to return the toshiba and get the 700m.

thank you so much for your help,

Eugene
Hi Eugene...

I guess an update is in order. I'm seriously considering buying another one. My plan was to replace my 1000 with a 9300 but this 700m has changed my computing habits.

Let me try to answer your questions. CHKDSK is just XP's method of error checking the hard drive, I run that each time in install or uninstall a program along with defrag. I did not reformat, just uninstalled the programs I didn't want.

The complaints I had heard were, glossy screen reflections, heat on the wrist pad, 90% keyboard, noisy optical drive and some others I can't remember but none of them had any relevance to me. It's like any new computer, you make your adjustments and thats it.

I use the computer about 10 hours a day (or more) with no discomfort and it's gotten to the point I will never consider a computer without a screen that is the equal (or better) of this one, it's that good.

I think that answers your questions now let me start raving about this thing. I use a verizon wireless broadband PC card which gives me internet wherever I am so I have started carrying the 700m everywhere, I have a lightweight sleeve for it that doubles as a briefcase and have made a mount for the car to use it as a GPS, you might say, I'm wired.

I always have two computers and try to keep the data coordinated and as I mentioned I thought I would get a 9300 but because of the convenience of the 700m, I can't see myself ever lugging a 9300 around. The 1000 is just too slow and big and I don't use a desktop anymore so a brace of 700m will take care of my 'puter needs untill it's replacement comes out.

thanks

Thanks for the quick respond Richard, my freind is letting me barrow his 700m for the day, call it a test drive... and I really think I am going to be getting one as soon as i get home(june10th) I hope they still have those $750 off coupons cause then I can get the top of the line 700m for about $1300, I looked at all other compariable lap tops (i.e. the ones with the 12.1-13.1 inch screens) and after the coupon its atleast $1000 cheaper than anything like it.

Also what software do you use for the GPS feature? It really looks like a great idea to have it as a car computer. Also I have found out that most towns have a place that has free wireless like schools, and libraries. So i plan on taking my 700m everywhere i go.

For all of you that are thinking of buying the 13.1 Sony instead of the 700M not only will you be spending about a $1000 more, but also sony has a huge problem with the ATI video cards not being compatible with their mother boards. I know three people with those comps that have a messed up screen or worse. because of that, so even though the Sony is Sexier I would go with the Dell anytime...

Thanks again Richard I hope I enjoy my 700M as much as you do..
Cheers,

Cheers,

It's a DeLorme Earthmate WAAS I got on eBay for around 90 bucks. It included the software Street Atlas 2004 (05 now).

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting this notebook as a secondary computer to my desktop pc. I'm interested in this model because it is lightweight while not being too expensive. I plan on using this computer mainly for programming. I was just wondering if you guys think the screen is too small for someone that uses to a 19" monitor as his primary computer.

hanleychan,
The physical size of 700m is about the size of 8.5"x11" copier paper. For screen viewing area, you need to deduct 0.5"-0.7" out of a copier paper. Do the test yourself and see if you can get use to it.
