Gateway 450sx4 no display problem

Ive got a weird problem with a laptop im looking at for someone else. its a Gateway 450sx4. It powers on but there is no display either on the lcd, or if i hook up my monitor to it, or even if i try a tv out . nothing, i figure its the video card, but could possibly be the motherboard.....maybe its integrated. ive tried replacing an lcd inverter cuz i know thats a common thing to go out and it was like ten bucks. but theres no change after that. also, ive checked on here and seen that some people have problems with a backlight lamp going out , but theres nothing on either the lcd or a separate monitor. has anyone else had this problem or maybe someone knows what it is, or maybe someones got some parts for sale and would like to let me know either way pm me or hit me up

If you can't get a display on the monitor out either, it is most likely the GPU. Probably a doorstop unless you can find one with a good motherboard that has some other serious flaw for cheap. The inverter has squat to do with the monitor output.

The CPU is a possibility. Even RAM is a possibilty. What processor does that machine use?

yeah i thought about those two, however , i get no beep codes, though the pc seems to power up normally, other than the no display problem. my main suspect at this point would be the cpu. i found one on ebay for 30 bucks. will update you as soon as i get that installed.

Many times you won't get a beep code with the CPU. RAM, on the other hand, should almost always give you a beep code, but that doesn't necessarily rule it out.

i tried a new cpu and nothing. im wondering if the motherboard i got from ebay might have been failed before i got it, it was only thirty dollars after all.

Hello,
I have a similar problem with my gateway ta6 laptop. It's really old and still uses windows xp. The screen started blacking out immediately after the desktop appeared upon startup. I tried attatching another monitor and the other monitor did the same thing. I gave up for a while, thinking it might be a virus because the other monitor still didn't work after hooking it up to another desktop computer.
After using my gilfriend's computer for about six months, she spilled OJ on the keyboard and it's toast now. Yesterday I had my brother come over and look at mine and it started right up with no display problems. It was very slow to boot up but he spent some time cleaning out programs and stopping some startup processes and had it running like a top after a few minutes. We watched a few tv shows on hulu, and he headed home and I went to bed. This morning I got up and pushed the power button to wake it up, and there was an adobe update to install, so I installed that and started to make some coffee. Came back over to look at it and the screen was black. Pushed the power button and didn't wake it up. Restarted 2 or 3 times and each time the display went black sooner in the startup process. ACK!
Any thoughts?

Time to take it apart and perform some cleaning up with new thermal paste? Try getting into safemode and run defrag and chkdsk?

cheers ...
