I have noticed that my cd/dvd rom isn't showing up all the time when I click on my computer.I am running xp home ed.Is there a fix for this?Thanks,john
I had the same exact problem after installing Win XP Pro!!! At first it didn't show up and then it did. Also, on my other computer, also XP Pro, the CD/DVD rom shows up but the disks can't be read. :{
Check the BIOS to see if it recognises the CD/DVD rom. I too had the same kind of problem where the Bios was set only to recognize the primary controllers. Also check to see whether the cd/dvd works with any other system to rule out drive failure.

Where is this setup?Is it in the cmos screen?Thanks
I think you have to search through the BIOS since I dont have the desktop anymore. If I remember correctly on mine it was located where one would setup the boot order.
Also try the CD drive on another computer if possible. It helps in pinpointing the problem.
One more thing try reseating the connecting cables from the cd to the motherboard..
