I waited a month for this??????

You guys won’t believe this. I ordered my Area-51 5500 laptop back on the 28th of February. Talked to several reps about what I wanted, estimated ship date, accessories, ect. I follow up with the occasional e-mail and one month later, it ships. No heartburn there, I expected a delay in the build process from what I read. I am out of town right now so the “gotta have it” factor was not that great.

Problem #1: The FedEx guy comes to the house while my girlfriend was at work. For some reason, he puts down that the delivery “refused signature” and will be shipped back to sender. WTF???? Is that like “if the tree falls in the forest” thing? No one was there to sign for it so it must have been refused. A few calls to FedEx and my GF has the box in the car. She gets home and calls me. I am on the phone like a kid during Christmas. “Open it up” I am telling her. Here is where it gets good.

Problem #2: She says that the box is a little heavy to be a laptop. I am like “Yeah sweetie, it is a gaming laptop so it is a little on the heavy side.” Open the second box and it is a TOWER. I go through the normal, “Stop playing with me!!! Are you sure???" routine for about 10 minutes until she says that it is black and sends me a picture. Yep, sure enough, it was a desktop. (Not that I had any doubt but I had to be sure, denial I guess) Not sure what model but from looking on the website, if I had to guess I would say that it is a 5550. 200 point inspection my a$$. I told her to keep the box because it’s going back and so is my money. I know mistakes happen but it is hard to explain this one away.

Sorry Alienware. You almost had a good customer but you screwed up. I guess what I read was true.

I guess I will look at a Sager now.

I know you guys will tell me to hang in there and see it through but my thoughts are that if you drop nearly 3 grand on a laptop, the process from start to end should be FLAWLESS. Hardware issues I can deal with but crappy CS is not something I will stand for. I have a bad taste already. When I call on Monday, I will give the rep ONE chance to explain this to me and make it right. If not, bye-bye AW.

hahaha, make them send you the laptop and let you keep the desktop for your troubles

That's a bummer man. But every company makes mistakes. I'm sure Sager, Dell or anyone else has also done stupid things. It SHOULD be flawless, but that is just an ideal that is a goal, an unachievable goal, it isn't reality for anyone.

Lol, that sucks, but it is weird...I had a dream last night (I think I'm getting a little restless waiting for my system) and it arrived as a laptop and not a Desktop...wanna trade? :P

Good luck on getting your lappy, though.

If AW ever agreed to that, I'd be a customer for life.

Obviously, AW has made an error..I have little doubt that given the circumstances they will make your lappy a priority...I would ask they have FedEx pick up your desktop and thus you will not be paying for it...you did accept delivery or your representive did so keeping it until you get your lappy would be childish as it was an honest error...do you think AW did it on purpose? No, they didn't and if you send it back thus you have every right to expect a lappy pretty fast but if you play games with it and tell them no return until you get your lappy..expect to be treated just as you act. All this is..is an honest error..nothing more..keep that rig and you have been charged for it thus AW has its money..think abt it before you make foolish and irate demands, as you have already paid for it but, if you did not want to wait for the lappy, then you have to send it back for the credit..either way, you get a lappy..which is what you wanted in the first place...yah, I would be upset..you waited but you knew this from day 1, AW does not sell pre-built crap...they build specific to your request...give them a chance to correct their error..you just might be amazed at how well that could work to your behalf

You waited a month..I waited 7 weeks..some have waited longer..that is a given with AW..you knew it going in, as we all did

I thought he requested a laptop....

I'm sorry, I just had to say it.

I'm also sorry about your laptop man.

Pre build "crap" works better than my AW. AW should start selling pre-built. Then CS would get a big break...lol

Yikes, we should be seeing another thread soon with the following:

"I ordered a Desktop and I got a laptop! WTF!"

Sorry couldnt resist.......anyway man, I have to say this, this company ships 100's if not 1000's of PC's every week, mistakes like this happen.....

I just read in the DELL FORUMS THAT PEOPLES ORDERS GOT CANCELLED after waiting over a month for their PC and nobody even told them....................

Wait for the lappy...it will be worth it....

Sure people and company's make mistakes, but I've seen it too often lately w/AW, especially w/the prices they charge. Think about this, if I don't get extra insurance coverage for equiptment and I ACCIDENTLY drop it by MISTAKE, do you think AW will say "ok, it was an ACCIDENT, we'll fix it. I'v noticed AW agents on this board try to help out people that get no CS satisfation. That's great, but these issues should not require a third party forum involvement to be resolved.

Who's going to reimburse kman for his time involved with AW's mistake? Down time and time to resolve. Even if they do compensate him, I'm sure he'd have to ask for it.

I'm not bashing, but it takes feedback to get issues corrected.

Ok, I took a walk and calmed down. I am still upset but like I said before I will give them ONE chance to correct this. If the rep is anything less than apologetic and wanting to make this right, I am done with them; refund me my money.

I have no plans on keeping the desktop. I will call on Monday to see exactly how they want me to ship it back to them, not on my dime of course.

Yeah, I figured as much.

I would ask they have FedEx pick up your desktop and thus you will not be paying for it...you did accept delivery

Too late for that. Unfortunately, the box does not say "LAPTOP" or "DESKTOP" so my girl thought it was what I ordered.

so keeping it until you get your lappy would be childish as it was an honest error...

Never once thought about keeping this thing. It will go back as soon as I get clarification on how to send it back.

but if you play games with it and tell them no return until you get your lappy..expect to be treated just as you act.

Where did you get that from? I don't remember saying any of that.

give them a chance to correct their error..you just might be amazed at how well that could work to your behalf

It better or I will take my money elsewhere.....

I think I addressed that earlier in my little story. What post were you reading?

That really blows, Now that kinda scares me now

Mine is in shipment now, and according to FedEx it is in two packages, one five pounds and the other is thirty pounds. I hope the extra weight is because of all the extra packaging so it doesn’t get damaged in shipment.

kman,

I know it must be frustrating after waiting for your computer, to receive the wrong one. More than likely it's a shipping error, and someone somewhere is pulling their hair out over the laptop they received when they ordered a desktop.

I've dealt with Alienware for years, so I can say with some confidence that they'll get you squared away. Hopefully in the long run the computer itself will make up for the hassle and disappointment of receiving something you didn't order.

yea i think someone at AW shipping will get royally reamed out for this shipping mistake. that is what it is, somoene put the lable on the wrong box, and it ended up being a desktop for you instead of a laptop that you ordered. out there in alienland someone is looking for a missing desktop and has a laptop that they didnt order. I know AW will sort you out. this sort of thing happens, and i know how frustrating it can be when you have waited and waited for something but it will all work out for you and for the best.

many AW owners wait for a long time to get their machines, some just a couple of weeks, some months. but AW is a quality system, and theyt will work to make things right for you, and get you exactly what you ordered.
