WOW! I can't believe I'm not seeing any leakage! That looks really nice.

My screen is the WXGA+. I set the icons to normal size and 96dpi.

Would you mind looking up your service tag and letting us know what part number that second screen is listed as?

Thanks. Based on the Samsung screen in the replacement system I received and based on your experiences with two different Samsung models, I think it's pretty likely that I'll be sticking with my LG screen.

Hello all

In my opinion, the screen in this thread looks great, and I certainly wouldn't replace it over 1 dead pixel. I don't know if many realize this, but 1 dead pixel is considered acceptable by many notebook manufacturers. I know the 9300 and XPS are awesome machines, and would be happy with a couple dead pixels, some light leakage, and a little shimmer. But then again, it's really apparent to me that my standards are a lot lower than everyone else's here, or maybe I'm being more realistic.

Sorry to come off judgmental here, but I think people who send back a perfectly good notebook, or just the screen for that matter, because of this little issue are being overly picky. And those who repeatedly do this are downright neurotic.

My advice, for what it's worth, is to keep the machine and use it for at least week. I bet at least some of us would get used to these minor little imperfections and learn to truly appreciate how lucky we are to have such a great machine.

Best wishes to all, and have a Happy Easter!

a single dead pixel slap bang in the middle of the screen would bug the hell out of me. given what we pay for these things, bad light leakage and dead pixels are not acceptable imo. hope my screen's not a dud, will find out on tuesday. depotes, dont settle for that screen mate, get it replaced.

Yea.. true that we have to appreciate what we have and not be overly picky, because nothing is perfect in this world...

But then... a dead pixel such as this will bug the crap out of me...

Call me lazy but I don't have the time and energy to worry about a little sparkle or some light leakage that's seen under the right circumstance. Most of the time it does nothing but stress me out. However, I appreciate those that do. They are the ones that push technology companies to come up with new ways to produce LCD screens so they DON'T have sparkle, light leakage, dead pixels etc. Someone needs to keep companies from complacency.

Not being satisfied with a screen on a laptop that you pay for, once you see it, is one thing, but not being satisfied with a laptop screen that you order before it comes to your door based on a part number is an entirely different story. There are several people on here who have the LG screen and love it (myself included). No sparkles, no dead pixels, and only the smallest amount of light leakage that I have only noticed during a movie that plays as Neverwinter Nights is booting up. I can not see the leakage on my almost all black background (1920x1200 Batman Begins wallpaper... can't wait for the 17th of June!!). At the same time, there are several people in this forum that have been just as unimpressed and dissatisfied with the samsung model as others are with the LG screen. It seems to me like just an occaisional bad screen in general due to a combination of factors... perhaps people are expecting too much... but perhaps dell needs to tighten up ther QC standards of what is allowable. Either way... people who have not received their laptop yet should take a deep breath, wait until it arrives, check it out.... use it... then decide if they want to return it or not. Thats the exact reasoning behind the 21 days Dell gives you to return it!

lol....I have to agree here. I got the LG WXGA+ display and was ready to return it two days before the laptop was even delivered to me. Once I received it, I found reasons to be unhappy with it and requested a replacement notebook. Received a new 9300 with the Samsung display and all it did was make me appreciate the LG display. Seems like some people (myself included sometimes) will go out of there way to find a problem which they would normally never see. It's almost got to the point of...."take your 9300 into a dark closet, display a green rectangle which is exactly 66.67% the size of the screen. Make sure it has a 90% grey border, then view the screen from a position 55 degrees to the left of the display and shift your head to the right 3 inches while tilting your head slightly to the left and then you'll see them problem!" OMG! I just read in another thread that there is a new problem with the LG displays that's only visible when the screen is turned off.

Still not sure if I'm keeping either of my 9300's though

Well, I haven't even ordered mine yet (we are a bit behind here in Norway, the XPS2 config link isn't even activated in the webshop), so I shall not comment on the actual issue. But I am reminded of a thread on a local forum after two people in a row received LaCie's with several dead pixels. No big deal, they got them replaced no questions asked. However, after that the forum started getting posts saying "Please tell me how to find dead pixels, because I cannot see them." People that were perfectly happy with their screens asked for advice on how to become dissatisfied.

After reading all the threads here (well, probably only 1/4 of them, it still has taken hours) I started feeling like not buying an XPS2. I can only say like the previous two posters. The verdict is still out on this one. Results are not consistent, peoples perception of it is individual, and it is still the best machine to be found. And as long as Dell seems to be happy (well, at least willing) to replace bad screens, I say see for yourself.

This does not mean that I do not feel sorry for those that have gotten flawed screens. I hope things gets sorted for all of you.

Problem is, in the picture with the flower he says:

It looks pretty good even with partial sunlight on it.
It is hard to tell from the pictures whether it is reflections or leackage, IMHO. My first impression was that the dark spot in the middle of the screen on the first two pictures is the silhouette of the photographer.

Or?

Rub the dead pixel, massaging it. Very gently with a soft cloth or your finger. Sometimes this can repair a dead pixel.

OK, this skepticism as far as my screen goes is now ridiculous.
Do you see sunlight in the first 2 pics? Did I say there was sunlight in the first 2 pics? Are you implying I'm making all this up?

What did I say it was?? Read post number 9.
"Yes, Dell, I have this problem of seeing myself in the screen, what should I do?"

Dlinkin---I tried that already. Thanks though.

Uhh, there's no luck involved - the system was paid for. It's not like you buy a lottery ticket and some people get XPS 2s and other people get something from Emachines.

If they deliver something that is substandard, then the vendor is at fault, not you.

Comparing the first screen shown in this thread to the one from the other user shows a very clear difference.
