9300: Hard Drive Noise?

I know there is a post below about specific problems with the 7200 drive, but I wanted to get more general info. My 9300 is on order right now with the 7200.

However, I use my notebook for audio recording, so "clicks"/"crunching" are not what I am looking for.

Has anyone received a quiet 7200? What about the 5400 drives?

Mine sounds like your average hard drive. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have the 100gig and this notebook is as closed to silent as it gets harddrive makes zero noise and the fans make a little but when the DVD-RW drive is spinning it makes a little racket.

I have the 60Gb 7200 and you can hear occasional low ticking sounds when the room is quiet. The ticks sound about the same as if you were to lightly tap your fingernail on the notebook. But it's quieter than a desktop drive. I don't know how sensitive your mic is, but people with the 5400s seem to be saying theirs are completely quiet.

Well, light sounds aren't a concern. In another thread somewhere on here people were complaining about serious crunching noises with the 7200 drives, but not that many people responded to it. So, I thought I would raise the issue again. That is all I was concerned about.
