Is it true there is not O'Cing the XPS gen2?

What about the 6800 on the 9300? IS that O'Cable?

Just curious but how did they locked it from Overclocking? Hardware method I believe... right?

So has everyone tried Rivatuner, coolbits, and powerstrip? I'm guessing everyone has tried those.

Nobody knows yet how they locked it out or even if they did lock it. Could be a driver issue or it could be something else. Just gotta wait on some smart person to figure it out for us

I think you can overclock, its silly to block it... I havent seen to many pc's block the user from oc'ing, because it really does nothing... well not to much

I can see why they would stop someone from unlocking some pipes n such, because that could seem like a new card... add alot of goodness....

But over clocking adds a little better 3dmrk score and heat.... for making soup

oc'ing is not recomended in notebooks because of thermal designs, plus the ultra is pretty much maxed out.

See thats a biggy to like chemical stated, " thermal Design"

Now if I had a desktop, I could just jerry rig some big ass fans on the heat sink and such, but you really cant on a notebook....

Its not worth the heat. Remember, "transitors and too much heat, will cook the shit out of your meat"

Well, ill sum it up this way so we can all understand now...
lol
With the xtra heat added, the chip is not designed for extra heat. Within reason, the chip could run at the higher temp, but the higher temp is not good. So slowly over time, without knowing, you could damage your chip.... It has happened... but its pretty rare, because usually CS (common sense) kicks in and people back off the OC'in

You might want to hang on to your 9300. If the 6800 Go Ultra on the XPS 2 can't be unlocked, it won't be worth getting rid of a 9300 for it.

Seconded...I'll be getting rid of XPS2 in favor of the cheaper and just-as-fast model...

I'm leaning in that direction but I'm not quite sure what to do yet. On one hand I like the XPS 2 and the 6800 Go Ultra but the lack of OC'ing turns me off. Around $1000 back in my pocket wouldn't hurt though

Sure, but I wouldn't call it overclocking though. The stock Dell settings are just way underclocked than what it's capable of. At 380/780, I'm getting 4500 in 3dMark05 stable, doesn't get hot, fans don't kick in on high, 0 artifacts. I'm sure it's consuming more power, though, which could be part of the reason Dell clocked it so low. That and to create a wider margin from the iXPS2.

i started thinking about it that too but ...

what do you say? I will only pay $150 in difference? what
what would you do?

I'm certainly going to wait until the last minute...hopefully, the overclocking mess will be fixed within 21 days from now, if you know what I mean...I'd hate to return the POS and have the overclocking BIOS issue resolved a day or two later...I guess I could still re-return the 9300 and re-reorder the XPS2!

If you're only seeing a $150 difference in price, you didn't get much of a deal on the 9300. I got the best deal on both, and actually a greater than any advertised price on the iXPS2 and the difference still came out to be $500. Which is a lot for pretty lights and just a hair's breath increase in performance. (Of course before I got the 9300 I thought the perfromance difference was more.)

i got thirds... i dont have 800 to spend on LED's

I believe Sonic got 4600+ with the 9300. If that's the case there should only be a 300-400 average point difference with the XPS2. I can live with that but my conscience tells me otherwise. I guess time will tell.
