Wireless Printer

Thread Starter
I'm still waiting on my 8890, but other parts of my new home office are arriving daily. One of my main goals was to have high-speed internet access, and go wireless. As a side bonus, I was under the assumption that I could get a wireless router, and also connect my printer to it, and then be able print from anywhere in the house. Well I've got my router(no modem yet) and printer but the printer (Canon MP700)connects with a usb2 cable, and the router(Linksys wrt54g) is all (ethernet ports). Does anyone have a suggestion which doesn't involve buying more stuff?

Thanks--Mike

You can hook up the printer to a stationary PC that you leave on a lot of the time and then print over the network to that printer. I know you can hookup parallel printers directly to the network with an adapter. You should return the USB printer and get a parallel one. The adapters plug right into the parallel port on the printer and then you plug some Cat5 ethernet cable from that to the router. There are wireless versions available, but I they should cost more. The other option is you could return the router your using and buy one with a built in print server in it. (Costs more usually than a regular router). But you would still need a parallel port printer. You could also try searching for something like "USB printserver" on google. There may be something that will work with your current printer, I just haven't seen it.
