Password Protection on individual folders?

There used to be a free program called PGP ("Pretty Good Protection") that you could download to password protect anything on your computer. I think they've crippled the freeware version to just email, but it's been awhile so you may want to look into yourself. I do not believe windows xp does password protection; xp pro does do encryption when you right click and select properties, then advanced, then check the box that says something about encryption. Google PGP and it'll take you to the website. Hope that helps!

Or try an encryption program, like TrueCrypt. It basically creates a folder that you can put any files into and it will require a password to mount (decrypt) and use, then dismounts (encrypts) so that it is unreadable again.

There's also BestCrypt that creates encrypted containers and does wiping after you delete something.

Turn off simple file sharing and you can ASSIGN users to folders with diffrent permissions

If you have trouble passwording it I'd suggest making it invisible. Just right click on it and select properties>Hidden

To make it appear again no matter where it is go to my computer and select tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.

Hope this helps you it certainly helped me to store all my passwords

If you use NTFS partition, you can identify the folders by user and define each one permission (to deny or allow).

What he said. It is a built in feature in the XP Pro version. To ready more about it go to Microsoft Knowledgebase and search for "password protecting folders"
