system resources and the 8890

i was using Gordian Knot, a divx encoder, and ran into some questions... it takes up about 80 % of my cpu while actually encoding. Is this natural? the input and output file are both on my HDD. It is a 4200 rpm 40 GB drive.

That seems like quite a bit of system resources to be used on a 2.8/512 with HT.

Don't know, but I saw another thread that made somewhat the same comment, that using Gordian Knot took up nearly all the resources on a new 8890. Must be some kind of whanking going on in there to do that. I think it was in the Gotta Have Apps thread.
