New Network

Thread Starter
I just recently bought a iXPS2. I ordered the machine with Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless. I was thinking of purchasing a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SRX. I have a few questions for those in the know if you will:

1) Is it worth getting this setup only to see the "N" network come out next year?

2) Will I need to buy a SRX card in order to get the full benefit of the router?

3) I've never had a laptop before. If I must buy the SRX card, do I need a special bay for an external card?

Thank you for any help you may provide.

Don't waste your money on SRX, or speedboost, or any of that crap. You most likely need to buy the PMCIA SRX card in order to get the SRX functionality, so why?

Save some money, get a cheap B/G router, like a linksys WRT45G I think is the model, or a netgear. I have had both, and both are decent. Anything else is a waste of money, none of it is standardized, and in my opinion is kinda like when you see adverts for a dial up company with 'speedboster' technology.

When N rolls around, then that will probably be the time to update the network if you feel you need to. I regularly stream broadcast TV over my network, and can simultaneously surf the web. That is pretty taxing for a network, yet the G is still more than up to the task.

I have the Linksys WRT54G and it works great. It has very good range with my 9200 w/Intel 2200 B/G. It also works very well with my Dell Axim X30. I also tried a D-Link DI624 because I read how good it was on the internet. It turned out to be a piece of junk that wouldnt work more than 2 feet away from my computer. Stay away from those.
