9860 Temperatures

How hot does your 9860 get? What card is hotter the x800 or the 6800? If you have the 6800, is it DDR or DDR 3?

well now that Spring/Summer is almost here. I get upto 62-65c from a max of 59c in winter. Idle temps are also rising from about 39-42c to 45-47c.

I can second dragonbanes temps. In fact, his temps are pretty much exactly like mine. Even the winter to spring/summer temp increases.

I may post a thread about this, but does yer battery get hot? I'm a manly man and I can take my fair share of heat, but this sucker was uncomfortably HOT. I've taken it out and will play with it out for a bit.

D'oh! won't turn on without the battery?

n00b move, power bring got unplugged.

45c-55c, sometimes upper 50's when playing CS for too long. I always have a laptop cooler going though so my temps are 5-7 degrees lower.

btw I tried taking the battery out too, but the cable falls out a lot, and I got sick of losing buttloads of work.

I can tell you the temp coming out of my video card's exhaust vent is 125f ! Thats in a 70f room.

It's crashed a couple times during gaming in a week.

I took it to the Sager factory today and had them look at it, (lucky me, they are close ) They said the thermal compound on the CPU was only so-so. So they re-did that, but said the video card looked fine. Hopefully the crashes will stop, but I still expect 125f exhaust.

By the way, I have the 6800 with DDR3.

Wow, can you imagine a dual-core Pentium with a 6800 Ultra inside? It'll be hot enough to brew coffee near the fan.

What were your temps before you took it to the Sager guys? In terms of CPU and Hard drive

lol ive yet to see a cooler get me down even 1 degree. Most get me up by 3 degrees compared to when they are not there. Ive tried Antec Vantec.. and the rest of the load. Btw where you are right now whats the outside temperature? Here its almost 10-14 Degrees now. Almost Spring time.

when I use it for internet surfing, homework, and other stuff like that it stays at the temperature 34 C. I only overclock my stuff before I game to prolonge the life of my lappy. When gaming it gets around hight 50s to low 60s; 70 C was the highest for me. I have no cooling pads.

what software are you guys using to monitor temps?
I use MobMeter. You can download it here http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/
post #13 of 20
this mobmeter only reads cpu temps it appears. is there other software that can measure more than cpu temps?
MobMeter also reads hard drive temps. I don't know for sure about the X800 or the GDDR3 6800, but the DDR 6800 does not have a temperature sensor.

Hmmm just recently my laptop has been starting to idle in the lower 50s. It has always been 38-42. WHy such a high temp increase all of a sudden? I dont think the transition from winter to spring would do that much, since the temp in the house is pretty much always the same. Ive had the same drivers the whole time too, so that cant be the issue. I just tried watching a movie and the temp went to 63C before i shut it off. Something must be wrong.

Well Zyren your PC is safe at 65c btw.. The Dell 9100 runs at a constant 65.7 to 67c when under lead.. has the same Processor. So i think we shoudnt be worried. Try cleaning out your laptop's fans. esp the two bigger ones on the right side. But i think if you have had your PC running for a while and under heavy stress it stays at 50c and really very slowly goes down to a base of say 47. When you start your 9860 you might have noticed it going to 60, fans turning on... temps going down to 41c approx and then if you idle and dont do anything the temps rise to 42 and EVEN more idle time slowly to 42-43. So after a day of heavy stress you can imagine how slowly the temps will go down. I woudnt be worried unless the PC starts shutting off.

I read somewhere that with the latest KBC/EC firmware the fans start to go really fast past 65c. Can anyone confirm this... ? I am talking about the S3 firmware.

well i have only had the 9860 for a few days and i noticed that the fans operate at one speed. do they ever speed up? if so at what point?

I'm pretty sure it only operates at one speed and that's at maximum speed. This occurred after Sager updated the Bios for a fan chirping problem they had earlier when the 9860 was first released.
well it sure is fairly quiet if it is constantly operating at max speed. my 17" toshiba laptop was actually a tad louder when it kicked the fans into overdrive.
Exactly, this is what confused me before I returned my 9860 around a month ago hearing about people complaining about how loud the fan noise was.

Even after 4-5 hours of continuous Half-Life 2 play, the fan continued to maintain the same speed and noise level as on start up.

And CPU temp never got hotter than 59 C according to mobmeter (I had the 570 CPU)

So yeah, I though the fan noise was relatively quiet.
