In Task manager it shows 100% CPU usage with 99% being system. Why???? How do I fix it
post #2 of 15
Ad-aware SE, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Antispyware, and Housecall would be good starting points.

I have Ad-aware SE, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Antispyware, and Zone Alarm. It did this before I ever hooked it up to internet.

Something is seriously hosed in a dll or vxd, or you have allowed a trojan or virus in by some other means then. Easiest method of repair, destructive restore.

I think I found the problem... some kind of xxyzz.system. something..... ending it seemed to fix the problem.... noticed service control manager a million times under event viewer too.

ok, I have one more question.....
WHYYYYY won't someone come up with ONE program to do the job that we need adaware, spybot, housecall, PCcillin, and zone alarm for? It would be sooooooo much easier.

Let me know when it's done. I want a copy or two....... or three.........

ps. Maybe we should tell all of these companies that market the products to join together and then charge an arm and a leg for the single program..... just a thought in my dream world...... don't pinch me cause I don't want to wake up.

That would be counter-productive. If you end up with a monopoly they could literally charge an arm and a leg and even maybe your second born child, because there would be nobody competing against them. Plus the products would probably suck becuase there is nobody to challenge them with competing products.

Be careful about just "ending" the program in the task manager. It is still probably hiding on your system (registry prob) waiting for a reboot, then reappears. I personally have pest patrol, ad-aware, norton corp ed, and a new one I really like called CounterSpy and for my popup blocker I have Meaya Popup Ad filter. There are many "free" programs out there that should fix all your issues but like Thunder PC said a reformat and OS reinstall is usually the safest bet.

I looked for the source of the problem and killed it. I ran Nortons, PC-cillin, Adaware, F-Prot, Microsoft antispyware, House Call, Spybot S&D, and Zerospyware. My notebooki s running great now. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
