Airport Express

Hello, I just downloaded the latest firmware for my new airport express as well as the updated airport express software...and I am still having trouble trying to install my lexmark z55...i checked the compatibility on lexmark's site and it did not have the z55 but then again...it was showing compatible printers for the airport "extreme" base station. Right now..I have a netgear router (4-port, airport plugged into 3rd and the other two computers plugged into 1 and 2. Test notebook is connecting through airport express base station). my printer is plugged into airport express. Now I have went through all of the adding port name and Device Type :Standard-Generice Netword Device...and selecting Lexmark...but still unable to communicate...airport express recognizes my printer connected to it and everything...can someone help me figure out how i can communicate and configure for printer sharing. Thanks.

help us out a bit. what kind of computers are u trying to use on the network? all Mac? all PCs? Mixed? if mixed, which is hooked up to which router? i'm also not clear as to whether you are trying to run both networks at the same time or if the netgear is just being used in the interim until u figure it all out. thanks.

ok...sorry.....all pcs....the netgear is connected to the cable modem...it serves as the distribution system. (lol)..it is a router.......all pcs...Windows XP....Lexmark Z55...the airport serves as a wireless AP...so I guess you can say there are two networks....a wired one..and a wireless one. Trying to get the other computers to first of all find this network..and vice versa...as I want to be able to set up some sharing..but my netgear sees the airport connected to one of its terminal ports....but from there..whatever is attached to the based station is unrecognized..you know what I mean?....let me know what other info you need...

hmm, that does clarify a bit. so i'm guessing the netgear is just your run of the mill hardline router. i'm guessing u r running into an issue w/ your OSes and the netgear trying to negotiate the print server. so u have the firmware updated... i'm guessing that if one computer is connected via hardline it will be trying to look for the printer via the router passing thru to the airport, whereas your laptop might have a better shot at it via the "direct" wireless connection to the airport. if u r trying to get both computers to print while directly connected to the router, this may be at play. i'd try setting it up wirelessly and see if the wireless computer can "see" the printer any better than the hardlined one. let me know if any of this helps.

still nothing..tried unplugging it...and wouldn't work....when setting up the printer....instructions from the manual as well as apple's website tells me that when I choose add a printer..I select Local printer...and uncheck.."automatically search for the printer"....then I click next..and choose..Standard....and then I select my printer from the list...(i click on have disk)...and when it tells me my drivers are not digitally signed..I go ahead anyways...and its done...and then when its time to print..."Problem communicating with the printer..Troubleshooting:
1. Make sure the Printer is turned on --> No Duh...
2. Make sure cable is attached.

I am going to try and e-mail either Lexmark or Apple...unless I can't find a solution using google....

so, again, are both of the computers u r trying to print from plugged into the router? if one is wireless, are u having problems printing from both the wired and unwired connections? as noted, i'm wondering what kind of problems u might be getting bc the airport is linked to the router. i'd try just setting up the printer w/o the router in the mix and see if that helps at all.

First of all..thanks for trying to help me..

I have two desktop computers..plugged in two ports in the back of the netgear router....and one port (from the express) plugged into a port as well. I have no notebook now...ran into a problem returning it..long story...but at least I got 85% of my money back....so...two desktops and a express wired to the netgear....I can install the express assitant software to see the airport and go into its admin utility to check see if it recognized the printer. What I don't get is....or I would say...if it is able to recognize it...then that is telling me that it should be able to support it...so there must be a network configuration that is stalling me....I use to have the printer attached to one of my pcs...and the other pc could print from the pc that is acting like a print server...I don't know....

if the express sees the printer but the printer can't print, is just a settings isue with the airport express, have you tried reset button on the airport express is a small pin size button is hard to see. then refresh ur printer
that should do it
