The Samsung colors do have more warmth than the LG and look more natural at their default settings. The LG display is a little more vibrant and less washed out. Comparing whites, I'd say the Samsung is just a teenie bit better than the LG...can barely tell the difference at all. Comparing blacks, the LG is significantly better as the Samsung never seems to be totally black...you can always detect some light.

Anyway if you're getting a K9975 that's a WUXGA and the screens I'm comparing are two WXGA+ displays so your situation may be totally different.

Couple light leakages comparisons. LG display is much better in this respect.

Would you take a couple more pics of the Samsung X4766 to document the light leaking a little better ?

90° camera - screen, and about 40 centimeters distance ... black screen
( maybe with nokia screen testing programm http://www.wintotal.de/Software/index.php?rb=61&id=2196 )

thanks

Sorry....the notebook with the Samsung screen is already on it's way back to Dell.

What screens are they currently using on the Canadian (assuming there are Canadian and US versions) version of the 9300? I'm asking about the standard 17" screen and the optional 1920x1280 TrueLIfe screen. Samsung? LG Phillips?

Thanks.

From all the pics I have seen online here and other places and with our own 9200 Samsung X4766 screen it is the superior display. Deep rich colors and a very bright screen if turned up above 6. Very little light leakage.

How can you specifically order the samsung or the lg

Hi, I like your pics and your post, but when i am ordering my computer, i can I ask for the better display or the better keyboard??
anyone?

i don't think so

I don't believe you can ask, its luck of the draw, if you're not happy with what you get, you always have the 21 days to send it back. I'm hoping mine 9300 gets shipped out today, i can't wait to see my screen

You forgot about asking for the better DVD drive and better battery too. Doesn't matter though, because the answer is no...you can't ask. As far as Dell is concerned, the parts are the same and exactly equivalent. That said, each display/keyboard has it's plusses and minuses and all people don't necessarily prefer the same one. You might be perfectly happy with what you get so I wouldn't spent too much time worrying about it.

First remember that the 21 Days begins at the ship date!!! (and you get to pay shipping charges)

I believe it is worthwhile to communicate your requirements to Dell when you place an order.

They have twice (without comment) complied with my requests.

Latest was my screen and it was perfect, no bad pixels, no 'light leakage' scales down without distortion, (see photos [post WXGA & WUXGA on D800] on photo board.

http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=80139

I had told Dell that the first test would be alongside my one year old Sony VAIO with a very bright, beautiful screen and the D800 blew that VAIO right out of my sight.

Now I never asked about 'keyboard' and sure-enough, it was spongey in upper left corner, but that was easy to resolve.

wow. so this is what light leakage looks like. thanx alot. but im quite suprised tho, cos i remember reading in another thread that ppl said that the LG seems to be the one that leaks more light. but ur samsung one looks pretty bad. dnt think i could cope with that if mine turns out to be that bad. but toms one looks so nice. so lucky i guess. so how is it that the light leakage gets better over time?? y does it do this??

When I have a dark background of any sort i see a very very tiny red dot in the top right hand corner of my screen. Is that a dead pixel? If so would I have to return this screen in order to get a replacement?
I have only ever seen one, white; behind 'start' button on the old Latitude LM. I suppose it could be any color..

If you are within your "21 days from ship" you could request return and they would probably replace it for you.

Beyond that, it might depend on policy of "where and how many" dead pixels to qualify replacement.

Recently read that Samsung has implemented a "Zero Dead pixel" policy on new LCD's

Probably makes no difference, but it never hurts to ask

When I ordered this D800 WUXGA Go5650 128MB, I told Dell that I wanted to replace my one year old Sony VAIO that had a very bright and beautiful display. I stressed the importance of meeting this standard for my needs.

First thing, upon delivery, was to boot it up along side the VAIO, and was pleased to see that it was brighter and with the higher resolution, showed a lot better detail than the Sony's XGA display.
