8890 problem

I am in London and my 8890 just died while the AC adapter was plugged in. Battery (4 months old) is now drained and there is no power to the notebook. The green light on the BRICK (ac adapter) is on but there are no lights on the computer. This would indicate a possible problem between the adapter and the lights on the notebook, eg, the plug. I don't think it relates to the 220v thing as it has worked here without a problem.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions for a fix? does Sager have anyplace in London for repairs in the event that it is the plug?

First of all, 220V is fine. Here in oz we are 240V and I run 24/7 (almost) on mine.

Suggested fixes. Try removing the battery plugging in and see if any of the lights on the laptop turn on. Secondly if you can get a multimeter to measure voltage (20V DC range) see if there is anything actually coming out of the DC plug that goes into the laptop. Be careful not to short the small pins.

aussie ... Sager USA sent me the number for CLEVO in the UK and I drove out to their shop with my 8890 which is a CLEVO 800P. Because the power supply is part of the motherboard, they replaced the entire motherboard which is consistent with the other threads...appears to be a weakness in this unit after about 12 to 18 months. The UK CLEVO guys replaced the motherboard but we couldn't boot from my original boot disk which was a raid-0 array. Fortunately I got through to SAGER tech support in LA and we solved the problem on the phone. Expensive but happy ending.
