IBM Software.. Is it killing my machine?

I have an IBM R51 laptop. It seems to be incredibly slow most of the time. Is it because of all the preloaded software IBM packages it with? I also have a Dell 8600 and it zips through anything I throw at it, albeit, the Dell has better specs.

If IBM software does the killing, what should i keep and what can i uninstall?

upgrade your RAM -- 256 is too little for Windows XP

add another 512 stick in there and you'll speed up right quick (should cost bout 80 bucks -- check newegg.com)

I have thought of that, but do you think this is just a RAM issue? Provided that I don't have a virus/spyware on my laptop, does the IBM software slow down the PC?

well i have a similarly spec'd t40 and it functions smoothly, the only diff is I have 512mb RAM

I put in another 256mb Ram chip, it has made a big difference, the laptop is a lot more zippy now.
