And why do you want to hibernate your laptop when you could just use standby...??

Right now it is set to Automatically after a period of Time, Yes I am going to disable it but it pisses me off that I can not re activate the thing

I also have this problem - i force it to shutdown & then restart it. I thought it was due to one of the dodgy programmes i have on there
It still does it even after I turned hibernation off altogether

I used to have a similar problem with my 9860. Try opening the DVD-rom drive when this happens. I cannot remember if it worked with or without a disk in the drive, but it would succesfully wake up my lappy.

I've found a similar situation. Here are some more details:

Upgraded BIOS to 1.00.03h (cannot remember original, may have been b, it was the first with the always on fan modes)

Since the upgrade of the BIOS to h, if you are sitting at the Windows desktop, and Close the notebook lid, the system goes to standby or hibernate (cannot remember if this was setable in the BIOS or not, but its the default value anyways) Then Open the lid. The system will come back up and the LCD will turn back on. BUT. If you leave the system idle, and the XP Power Management settings kick in to turn the LCD off after a length of time (mine is 20 minutes) then no matter what you do the LCD will STAY OFF, the only method out is to hard boot via the power button.

Coming from a fresh boot, without closing/opening the lid, then when the power management kicks in and the LCD turns off, the LCD will be power back on, if you hit a key or move the mouse, just as it should.

The only time I've seen the LCD power off and stay off, has been after a Lid close/open cycle and the XP Power Management Monitor Off time has been hit.

Perhaps this is related... perhaps not.

Maybe the monitor is just plain busted? I know thats not good news, but at least you can could stop messing with it and take it in.

It seems it is the screen that will not turn back on after it enters Stand-by

When I close the lid the same thing happens

Please help
