i9300 Reloaded OS - Made Marked Improvement

I received my i9300 (with nVidia 6800 GPU) Friday and I fired it up and put Call of Duty on. I noticed when I was in a multiplayer game, my system lagged when I had the graphics set as high as they would go. I asked on the server if anyone else was having issues with lag and the answer was no. I backed up the system to another computer and then I reloaded (XP Pro) from scratch. I never ran any benchmarks, but the feel of the machine was much faster and more smooth. The same server and map can now be played at the highest settings for video with no lag. Dell puts so much crap on their machines that it really does make a difference to reload the system!

Yeah, I hate that dell puts so much crap preloaded on to the system. I wish their was a box you could check to have no software, other than the operating system, preinstalled.

How would they advertise?

I ordered my 9300 through small business, which offers a lot less unwanted software, but I was wondering is it worth the trouble of formatting and reinstalling the OS if my 9300 was ordered through SB rather than Home?

Can't I just uninstall the programs I dont need? I know thats a little tough, but can't it be done.. Im not very computer savvy, reloading or reformatting for that matter is Latin to me.

that will still leave crap behind even though it says it completely uninstalled the stuff, there are still references to things in the reg and what not, and files in folders that kinda stuff

If you're not sure how to do this, talk to a friend that can help. The most difficult thing for someone that is not familier would be backing up your data and/or system.

Bfv

I had the same problem with BFV. Reloaded xp and the lag went away.

What exactly did you back up? or a better question, what is there to backup when you first get the lappy from dell? and did you back it up via an external hard drive or wireless connect to another comp or...etc.?

Forgot To Ask

Does dell include an install disk for the os and other programs? if not, how do you reload these?

Mimiman,

I agree with your question above. I am debating whether to reinstall the OS when I get my 9300. However, I have never understood what people were referencing when they say to back up the files, considering that, if it is new and you don't want any of the Dell programs, there should be nothing to back up (?)

SB still puts abunch of crap on too. I have certain tastes for all the software that I use, so I just reformat and install the stuff that I want/need.

I always reload too.
Just make sure to grab all the drivers off of Dell first and burn them to CD. Makes things go much smoother on the install.

I got 3340 in 3dmark05 with fresh install of XP @ Stock settings with 76.10 drivers... pretty nice. I don't plan on overclocking but I could probably get close to 4400 I think... maybe in the future...
