I do not have complete care. Just basic 1 year mail-in plan. Mine is a defective battery so Dell should not have any problems sending a replacement part.

i hope they do it for ya, its just the battery is in the gray area when it comes to warranty care, i have had troubles with battery problems (not dell ) in the past and manufactures refused to fix it

Dell have shipped a replacement battery and it will be arriving today. I hope this time I can get more than 5 hours of battery like you guys. I will be travelling a lot that's why I bought the 9-cell battery (+$99 in my order) 3:45 hours in my current batt is just unacceptable for an additional $99. I get just 3:45 hours with ethernet off, wireless off, half-bright LCD, no multitasking, no CD-usage, PURE idle.

I got over 6 hrs on the 9 cell battery while watching a dvd (with dvdidle pro, however) on a plane from philly to LA. on the way back I had my 6 cell in (both were in my bag) and it lasted around 3 1/2 to 4 hrs no problem. This was with the brightness 2-3 up from the lowest setting and battery saving quickset on.

as for physical differences, the 6 cell battery is the exact same size as the 9 cell, but the 9 cell is a bit heavier. I do have a 5400rpm 80gb hdd and not the 7200 so I'm not sure how much battery that saves.

if anyone is buying a new 6000 and thinking about upgrading to the 9 cell, DO it... but it's better to get it as a "secondary" battery so you have the 6 cell also in a pinch (ie a transcontinental flight with no airline power at your business class seat (I've been screwed that way before)

GUys, heres the same question i posted before, when you first got your computers, did you use the battery till it died, then charged it???? or charged it right away?

Make sure your battery is a 9-cell. Dell sent me a battery and the package and the invoice both said 9 cell 80wh- but the battery inside the package was a 6-cell 53wh. After 3 hours on the phone waiting and getting dissconnected and waiting again,,they are sending me a new one- I hope this time they get it right.

Battery: 9-Cell Lithium-Ion
Dimensions (WxDxH): 5.47" x 3.48" x 0.83"

I don't see any difference in dimensions and the weight of the 9-cell is only 0.3 lbs more than the 6-cells..
i'm not regreting getting the 9-cells

HEY that just happened to me today!! I received the replacement battery that Dell sent me. The invoice says it's 9-cell but hte battery is actually 6-cell. I'm currently in te phone right now waiting for another Indian Dell rep.

Yes, I said i was unhappy with a price differance of the system( I could order it cheaper now) and the 6 cell battery life and they offered me a 9 cell battery.....then THEY cancled it a week later I called and asked why and they said it was cancelled by management....I refused the $50.00 credit they offered me and said i wanted the battery THEY offered me the first time. So 2 weeks later...they send the wrong battery and NOW my it appears 2 batteries have been sent. I EmailedCustomer support as I was waiting on the phone for 3 hours and it looks like Both agents ordered me a replacement ! Damm this means even more time getting this order corrected !

Good Luck ! You read how long it took me to get through to them...bouncing between Customer Service and Tech Support. Did you notice the Pink plastic bag it was shipped in has the 9 cell battery item number and the battery is the 6 cell .

I think this is what happened to the system. The origianl battery that came with my system sez 80WH (9cell) in it but it's life is a actually a 6-cell's. Now, a 9-cell battery weighs 0.98 pounds and a 6-cell weighs 0.57 pounds. My shipment says 1 pound all in all but it's the six cell battery. Get it? Could it be that this is actually the 9-cell with the wrong label????? I'll try the battery to find out.

Disregard my post above this. It's really the 6-cell. I compared the weight and hte shipped item weighs less than my current 9cell.

When you first get your computer, it is clearly stated in the QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE to use the AC on the first use. Whenever using the battery, it is BEST to let it drain until it warns you of LOW BATTERY before recharging it. This answer your question?

yeah... and for the record, I just weighed both on a high-precision postal scale...
6cell: .755 lbs
9 cell: 1.010 lbs.

Got my replacement battery today and AGAIN it's a 6 cell not the 9 cell.
