Alienware Area-51 m7700 3DMark05 & 3DMark03

Thread Starter
Just received my 7700 and have been using it for the last 2 days. Thus far I am impressed.

Ive been reading alot of posts of people receiving their lappy and having problems with them straight out of the box. So far i have absolutely ZERO problems. Ive played games such as Doom3 and Half Life 2 to test things out and they run like a champ!. I had no shutdowns, blue screen errors, or freezes. Im not using any form of cooling pad.

As far as the weight of the lappy, I have a Toshiba P25-S520 with the 17.9 inch display and it weights just SLIGHTLY more than that it seems, so the weight is not an issue for me, and i do alot of traveling.

The display screen is absolutely awesome. NO DEAD PIXELS, or at least, none that i have seen so far. And to be honest, i dont plan on looking very hard to find one, cause i know if i DO happen to see one, ill probably end up staring at it whenever im using the laptop.

My main disappoint is that i do not have an internal wireless card because i decided to stick with the x800, and i have not yet been able to test the external wireless capability. Another disappointment would be the sound. I had to play with the EQ for quite some time to be able to get it loud enough to watch a DVD movie. Oh, and by the way, the subwoofer sucks, AW might as well just remove it from their systems because it seems to make very little to no difference in sound.

The touchpad was a bit rough at the start, but after a few hours it smoothed itself out.

The fan sound is another thing i hear about others complaining about. Yes the fan does get loud, but not loud enough to be annoying in my opinion.

The backpack was a bit dissapointing for me as well. It would have been nice to actually have a space for the big block of a power source the 7700 comes with rather than just tossing it in the bag.

Speaking of the AC adapter, im not sure if it is normal, but there seems to be noise coming out of it while the laptop is turned off, like some sort of relay switch going nuts. If anyone has any info whether or not its normal for them i would appreciate it.

Now i suppose you want benchmarks. Now just so you know, i have not done any tweaking of any kind to the graphics card. It is something that im not too experienced in doing. And i havent found any decent posts as far as the x800 goes to see what others have theirs clocked at. And im reluctant to do a test without knowing what im doing. But here are the stock Benchmarks that i am getting using Omega's drivers.

3dmark 03 - 8837
3dmark 05 - 3702

If anyone has any clock settings they are using that is stable i would like to know so i can try them out.

Anyway, there is my review. Overall I happy with my choice, It is well worth the wait. I would like to thank NBF for helping me choose such an awesome lappy!

awesome, I got basically the same specs as you minues 1 gig of ram and its just a 3.2 ghz....but thats awesome. Yeah I got the x800 as well, I tend to stick with ati mostly. The Omega drivers should allow for OC'ing you might to tweak bit to see what you can get. Don't OC too much though, I would hate for me to tell someone to do this, to realize I just fried their system.
