Canadians with XPS2 delays - Page 15

My rep actually called and left a voicemail on my cell telling me mine has been shipped from the US, and should be here early next week.

Dr. Kil: what screen did you end up with? I got the Samsung and it is absolutely gorgeous...

Woot

Status On vehicle for delivery
Date/Time APRIL 8, 2005 AT 08:29
Depot FREDERICTON, NB

Should be here anytime now, I worked all night last night but now I'm afraid to sleep, if I miss them they take it to a place that sells bottled water for pickup and those evil crones will indubitably stack it under a tipsy water dispensing unit

Wewt, finally, quick inspection everything hardware wise looks satisfactory to me but damn I havn't seen so much stuff running in the background in a long time wiping it as I type.
Hey good buddy, I'm not an expert in that area I would love some help with getting ride of all the non-necessary process's in the background (without reformating). Either here or via email rkilistoff@hotmail.com. That would be great!

Anyone interested in an update?

Here we go. So, Dell is blaming Canadian customs, saying they mislabeled my system. Due to that, it is lost, gone, vapor. They replaced my order with a new order on Wednesday. I told the girl that was entering the replacement order that if there are any holds to let me know as I will alter the system to avoid them. She assured me there were no holds. I was also told that due to this being a replacement, I would be moved to the front of the line. oh, forgot to add, they billed my credit card on Monday because as far as they are concerned, my system shipped last Friday.

Delt with another CSR yesteday who asked for the day to find out what actually happened and what they could do, so found out nothing yesterday.

Today that CSR escalated things to her boss as it was over her head. I had a bunch of questions that she couldn't answer. First was, when was my credit card going to be credited? Well, never, if I want to keep my replacement order. If I cancel and order again, my visa will be credited in 5-7 business days. I will also lose "front of the line" status.

Next question was, when am I going to get my replacement system? Well, apparently in 10-15 business days as there is a hold on the HD. WTF?? I specifically told them to ensure there were no holds when it was reordered. I emailed the guy back and told him to change the drive to something that didn't have a hold on it but never heard back (probably went home for the weekend), at this point I really don't care what drive I get.

When it is finally made, they are going air freight it to Toronto, where apparently all Dell computers go through customs. From there, this guy couldn't tell me if they were going to ship it ground or air the rest of the way to me in Prince George. Here I think I am being fed a line about the HD backorder to cover the fact that they aren't actually air freighting it to Toronto.

So what do I get out of this you might ask yourself? I must be getting some amazing deal to keep that charge on my credit card, to put up with all this crap, and wait up to another 3 weeks for this system right?

Well....you'd be wrong. I got jack, zip, ziltch. Nothing that I didn't already have. Granted, I'm probably getting it cheaper than anyone in Canada by a fair bit, about $2200 before taxes, but I get nothing else. The reason is "they are already undertaking a significant expense to air freight it to me."

My wife talked me into giving them until Tuesday to ship it (she knows how badly I want it). I was going to cancel it earlier today and go and buy a little Sony S360, and say "**** it" to the ultimate gaming rig.

Tuesday may be an interesting day.

Ouch...

Well, it will be interesting to see what happens on Tuesday. The system is definitely worth the wait.

Except for now I am getting a weird display issue where suddenly my screen will get all funky with its color, like all rainbow looking. If I am playing a game when this happens, some of the textures get the rainbow effect. It is random when it happens and it fixing itself is random as well. I have to call support for this one, but who knows if it will be tough to track down...

Fate, sorry to hear about your continuing bad luck....if you can stick it out a little longer, it's definitely worth your while...especially at the price you're getting it. This machine is awe-inspiring...hang in there buddy.

Let us know if there's any way to ease your pain...

Maybe you should lend him your XPS2 to check out for a weekend?

Are you using the 76.41 drivers? I read in a few threads that this is a random glitch with those drivers.

I think that would only make it worse for him. Imagine having someone lend you and XPS2 for a day or two, then take it away again...wouldn't help. Besides...he's a trooper. I offered an XPS2 porn session on the web cam for him...I'll point the camera any angle he wants...LOL

Just trying to be a supportive

Let's all protest and make our LEDs red until Fate gets his lappy.

(Just kidding -- I'm pretty happy with MY LEDs right now).

I had installed the 76.44 drivers and they seemed to work fine, but the problem started at some point after. I'm not sure if it was coincidence or not, but I reverted the drivers back to the Dell ones and the problem still occurs. It is random and follows no pattern... argh. by the way, I have not reformatted from when Dell sent me the system.

Where did you see these other threads? I'd like to see if the random rainbow issue was what others were experiencing.

Dell is supposed to send me a new system, but we all know how long that may take.

So I just did the full Dell system restore and the screen still randomly goes crazy. So it is definitely not a driver issue.

Now I get to wait for a new one. Joy. Looks like I'm joining you Fate!

Oh good, it's better to share in misery.

Thanks e-buddieeee.

That sounds hardware related the same thing just happened to a buddy of mine, it sarted out just like you're saying and then after about a month he could play no games and even the desktop looked messed up. Sounds like you did the right thing in returning it. He just had them replace the video card and it took like two days cuz dell had him ship it somewhere here in Canada to get fixed.

So did the replacement video card solve the problem? They wanted to have me send the system in to replace the video card, but I wasn't comfortable with that since they weren't sure that was the problem. Plus, it is so intermittent and unpredictable that I could see a tech putting a new card in and turning the system on and figuring it was ok. Then I'd get it and it would start doing it again. It sounds like something is shorting out to me so I figured it was best to get a new system.

I just hope it gets here by the end of the month as I am going on vacation, but something tells me that won't happen. We'll see.

Ya it was only the video card, and the problem's totally fixed now. But it was a different system and I'd hate to recommend getting it fixed and that being the wrong decision. While you're within the 21 days it's probably best to just get the new one.
