WOOT! Got My XPS2!

Just got my XPS2, and let me just say it is AMAZING!

Haven't had time to do much with it. The screen (LG) is VERY bright and has amazing colors. As for sparkle, it has some, but it doesn't bother me! It is very fast and very responsive. It has very good sound quality for a laptop, and the subwoofer really adds to the quality. You can definitely tell some of the sound spectrum is missing, but I will be getting new headphones + a PCMCIA sound card, so I don't expect that to be a problem. The battery life seems like it will be quite sufficient for watching regular length DVDs, but I might have problems with longer movies. The lights are cooler than I expected! The case is very sleek, and as a whole, it is very light for its size. The keyboard is very responsive and easy to type on. I wish it had a number pad but I can live without one. The touchpad could be a little eaisier to use...maybe I just need to adjust it a bit/get used to it a little more. It came on time and very well packaged. Back to the screen, I love it so far. It is brighter than my current ViewSonic 18.1" flat panel, and so far, it seems very responsive for a 25ms panel. I have a lot of work to do this week, so I won't get to play with it as much as I would like. Feel free to post questions here, and I will try to get back later tonight to answer them. I would love to post pictures...but I don't have a very good digital camera/a place to post them.

Either the first or second day it was available...but Dell cancelled my original order and I just got the reorder.

Congrats, fishpro!

It would appear that you're the first with a shipped 2.13GHz CPU. Could you, please, post a stock 3DMark 2005 score?

EDIT: I am wondering if we could reach those fabled 5200 marks. I am also expecting a 2.13 GHz one.

Yea, im curious -- were the DELL test models equipped with the faster proc? I ordered the faster model too

I got mine today too with the 2.13 GHz. I'm currently formatting the hard drive, but I will soon post impressions/pics/benchmarks.

tjmaxwell2, when you take the pics could you take a pic with a webpage open, preferably msn.com. I want to see how small the text is. Still can't decide if I want to go with the WUXGA (thinking maybe getting the 9300).

i got mine yesterday with a 2.13, and out of the box it only scores 4911 on 3dmark05...

will reformat and put a proper driver on and post later..

wow! congrats!
i'm guessing today is when the first xps2's are arriving?
please give us a 3dmark score, and a review. i'll be looking forward to them.
enjoy your baby

Sure thing jkballer.

I didn't bother running 3DMark with all the bloatware running. I chose no security subscription and no Dell Photo Studio/Music studio when I ordered, but they still installed them. I'll be loading the 76.10 nVidia drivers when it's done. I've heard they offer a decent boost in performance over the stock Dell drivers. Formatting now...wish me luck!

wow nice, btw you can go to www.imageshack.us for hosting your pictures..

also if you havn't already been told before

go to start->run->type msconfig->disable all->restart and it will reboot your system for the bare processes w/ nothing else going on in the background

it helps a ton when your benchmarking, and when your done just turn eveyrthing back on...

look forward to your pictures and review

According to recent reports 75.80 is faster than 76.10 (3.5 fps in Doom 3):

EDIT: only at high performance, worth a try still...
Heh...well, the 76.10 drivers are what I burned onto the CD so I'm going to try those first. I might experiment a little bit later once everything is setup.
been reading up loads on drivers (nothing else to do while waiting) gonna try a few modded 75.9's 76.10's and even some modded 71.84's....will post results for all when i get it.........should be monday.
I tried installing the 76.10 drivers, but it said it did not detect a device that supports these drivers.
because the drivers direct are meant for desktop gpus and need to be slightly changed to work on the mobile card.

need to go to laptopvideo2go.com to get the modded inf's.....and replace those...(instructions on the site, i am as of yet to do it but reckon shouldnt be to hard when my xps2 finally shows up)

or got to guru3d.com and u can find some (named the 75.9's) modded and ready for laptops.

Driver upgrading for the ultra, we just download the drivers off of nvidia's website and they install, right? None of this, "Oh, only the notebook manufacturer can provide video driver updates" BS?

BTW, I purchased an XPS2 as a big ass birthday (3/27) gift to myself, yesterday!

Pentium M 2gigz
512 meg
60 gig 7.2k rpm
DVD+-RW Burner + DL
Dell Wireless
2 years onsite + xps2 backpack

With the $800 off it was $2,369.00, but I had to pay $150 tax so the total was ~$2500. Do you know if that's a pretty good price? It's a bit more then I wanted to spend but its got a heck of a powerful video card and looks great too boot. I like the neon lights.

Edit: whoohoo, I just checked. Overnight I made it to the build phase!
