As it stands, no vendor has advertised it as having such a thing.
The original spec on the PCI-E is to have this support, but I have not seen any laptop released to date with this particular feature yet. Other than Sager or something someone had mentioned.

So your guess is as good as ours at this point.

The video card is installed on Nvidia's MXM interface
What I am saying is that the video card is not installed using MXM. The link between the video card and the notebook itself does not use MXM Technology. If you have solid proof here that it is, then show me, because everything I have read shows otherwise.

The z71v is still a good deal of a laptop though.

Read Geared2Play's review here .

nder the hood you will find the standard stuff. No need to go into details the pictures we have on the site speak for them selves. One very notable feature which may be a shock to everyone is the modular video card. That’s right asus just made this puppy upgradeable for gamers (if the cards them selves ever reach the market of course). 4 screws come off. Heatsink dismounts. Video card pops out just like ram. And presto you are holding the pcie 6600 Go with 128mb. The ram is made by Hynix all 128mb of it. The kicker here is that the actual card is assembled by asus in Taiwan (see pictures). Infact asus name is all over this one unlike last years models. The vga/chipset cooler is a nice design. It actually gathers all the heat from the surrounding compartments and passes it out the pack through a metal duct powered by one single fan. The cpu compartment has its own fan not shared by any other heat producers. The air intake for both fans comes from the bottom through a see through mesh grill.
Where does it say there that it is MXM? There is a world of a difference between a notebook that has MXM and one that can only be replaced using proprietary hardware specific to the vendor.

Thanks for starting this thread smilepak. This debate is scattered all over these forums. Asus z71v vs Acer 8104 - ...and which one is the better value? I have been struggling with that for sometime and I've come to the following conclusions:

1- x700 vs the go6600 - the acer 8104 gets the edge in performance, at least according to the benchmark data I have seen, but how well does this translate into real world performance? I don't know. Any opinions?
2- the acer also has a DVI port and a 5-1 card reader as opposed to a VGA and 4-1 card reader.
3- the asus can be configured with an SATA HD while the acer only comes with a PATA.
4- the asus gets the nod on price. I can configure the same systems for about $2200, but I get a 3yr warranty with the asus as opposed to a one year with the acer.
5- the asus also seems to get the nod on battery life. Does everyone agree with that?

Does anybody know these guys?

Did I miss anything? I'd be interested in hearing why JFvergara went with the Acer 8100... Were you ever considering the Asus z71v?

thx in advance for the dialog

In terms of real life performance, you should barely notice a difference, if any at all... I think you'd be happy with either.
However, your wallet would be happier with ASUS, of course

Are you happy with proportable's product? (shipping / quality / warranty) And would you recommend them? They seem to have exceptionally good pricing.
This thread is 5 months old...

But anyways, proportable is somewhat expensive for Asus laptops. You should check out istnc.com or geared2play.com also for some more prices.

Are there any good Canadian custom laptop distributers?
Infonec sells actual barebones. CanadaSys is pretty good for built on ASUS. There's Voodoo computers I guess, but that's kinda.. yeah..

Netlink is the only Canadian reseller with a Platinum Plus rating from Reseller Ratings, and I've heard good things about Canadasys as well. Check out the Resellers by State & Province sticky for all of them.
