I remember someone posted (I dont know if it was here or some other forum) of a step-by-step guide with pics on how to open up the 8790 and apply artic silver to the processor. Anyone know of this site?

Thanks

I was wondering, what's the point of applying arctic silver to the processor cooler if the processor itself is never a problem for the laptop? The processor is on the top right side of the laptop, and as you can notice, its temperature is hardly noticeable most of the times. The real troublemaker is the GPU, found on the left middle part of the laptop. If anybody could find a way to cool that part down, it would be really helpful. From what I've seen, there's not even a fan blowing air on the GPU, and apparently clevo thought that a simple copper rod, taking the heat outside, would be enought to solve the heat-emission issue. I just guess you can reapply a new thermal paste on the CPU, and you'll definitely get lower processor temperatures, but it not going to help you cool down the GPU, which is on the other side of the computer.

You answered your own question. The point is simply to lower the processor temperature - thats all.

I artic silvered my GPU as well as my cpu, and am looking into "modding" the cooler for the gpu somehow to keep it under control. Used AS5. So far so good, but as was indicated here, I think it needs more surface area in which to dissipate the heat generated.
So far I have had no problem with the GPU though.

I also artic silvered my GPU and it does help. Of course, I am proficient with building computers so all I did was read the instructions on doing it to the 5690 and it was easy from there out. If you are comfortable with it, then do it. Just don't expect the fans to never come on.
