I just received my XPS2 and my excitement has been replaced with confusion. Saying that the LCD is top of the line would be a serious over statement. Sadly it is an LG version. Has anyone recieved a Samsung verion?
The good news is that there are no dead pixels. The screen looks like someone cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol that never dried. If everyone is calling this the "sparkle effect" its absolutely annoying. Its not noticeable from 5 feet away. I especially notice it with green, medium blue, and green. I have four laptops (Dell C640, Dell D600, and a Toshiba 5250-s705). None of which exhibit the odd looking sparkle issue the XPS2 has. I will note that the screen is bright so bright there's light leakage very notieably from the bottom. I'm not being picky because I know that all new high quality glossy lcd's have some point of leakage, but this is noticeable except when the toolbar is there, which seems to mask it. They certainly must have used their Tide becuase the white's are very white compared to the other laptops. I'm not going to compare it to any monitors. I will say the disappointment of the XPS2 screen was inline with the dissapointment I had when I connected a nvidia6800GT up to a HDTV via 720p with a DVI cable, but that's another story.
Is anyone going to send their's back? I can't believe none of the reviews complained about this screen. I would rather have a non-glossy screen such as the D610 as opposed to this glossy light bright rainbow bright screen. Wow what a hassle. I knew I should have given up gaming and went with the disposable 1 year Sony's.
PS. If someone wants to see a comparo between my Dell D600, C640, Toshiba 5205-S705, Dell 19" monitor, or Toshiba HDTV 720p please let me know and I'll take a picture I have a Canon Digital Rebel so the pic should be good.
