A little off topic, but.....

what are you doing to get the "Mac" like icons on your system like in the last post. As well as the tabs on the top of the screen???

All these discussions abt the screen are making people paranoid, and its making people changed their mind in getting this awesome notebook... I personally was also paranoid abt the screen, but once i got it, n after some color adjustments, I got to enjoy this glossy, big screen.... n By the way if it helps, i got the LG screen..... and I love it.... So my suggestion to everyone is not necessarily the screen u get is the one with the sparkle and light leakage... Leave it that to your judgement....

I think we are in the minority here on your thinking but I agree with you. I think if you look for something to be wrong long enough....you will find it in anything. Personally I'm having a blast gaming on my laptop though!

I will let the others obsess about their screens and just enjoy mine.

OK, here she is in all her glory. Near total darkness.

objectdock...
I'm sorry for being off topic here, but you can do all that (side & bottom function) with objectdock? If so, I’m going to have to look into it, I specially like the side "activity bar". Are all the cool icons included?

Thanks

Why do people obsess about light leakage in totally dark environment? I can not imaging people use their machines in totally dark room. In my opinion, if you see nothing or acceptable in your normal working environment (usually lighted condition), you have a good screen. Test light leakage on DVD viewing (with balck bar) in your normal working condition will be most likely situation to tell if you feel comfitable with light leakage.

Nice screen. Still see very minimal light leakage at the bottom though.

Thats because you have a Samsung, and you cant stand the fact that this LG has much less light leakage! LOL

Prism I will be the first to say that your LG LCD looks AMAZING in complete darkness and I hope I will be lucky enough to recieve the same quality display. As for the samsung screens, I've seen many more screens where the light leaks through the LCD rather than around the edges... I'll surely be skeptical to ask for a samsung replacement if I get an LG at first

I replaced my 9200 wuxga screen myself from Dell and while the light leakage has MUCH improved, I now have the black spot on top of the screen similar to your pic. It's as if someone pinched the screen on the top half and it never recovered. Getting them to send me another one, hopefully this will be a good one.

I wonder what's causing that "pinched" screen effect?

I have also just asked to get a replacement LCD sent to me because I have dark corners, and the left and right edges are dark as well. Not as drastic as some of the others, but it really does bother me when I'm looking at it.

I do have some minor light leakage, but it's not nearly as bad as that picture. I currently have the WUXGA LG LCD, and I will be receiving the Samsung one tomorrow, or the following day. (Awaiting tracking number, actually)

When I swap it I will let you all know how it works out for me. I may take photographs depending on the results

Dell really needs to do something about all these bad screens. I have some bad leakage and noticable sparkles. I may be calling in for a replacement. With the money people spend on these notebooks, Dell should get it right.

Sorry to the original poster on his screen, mine isnt that bad. But bad enough for a replacement.

Pic of MY light leakage

OK, I just spent awhile taking pictures of my screen displaying black in Photoshop full screen with the lights off, using various combos of f-stop/shutter speed/white balance/exposure/etcetera until I came up with a good picture of how crappy my Samsung is. I am guessing it needs to be replaced. Any other comments? Thanks -JB

(EDIT: Wow... I just realized it looks like some sort of wide ghostly image -- like some guy with a moustache. Creeeeepy!)

Honestly it doesnt look that bad. Any photograph tends to amplify the actual problem by a good percentage more than it actaully is. But, your welcome to jump on the "omgmyscreensuxasstrain" at any time.

Did you notice that "pinched" screen effect, sort of a vertical black line on the top half of the screen on both images on this page? What's the deal with that. A lot of the Samsung screen has that!

I hope the 1920x1200 does not have bad leakage problems...I ordered yesterday, its the one with TrueLife.

It amazes me how so so many can be so duped into buying Dell junk.
