LG owners: what's you favorite color profile? - Page 3

I have no clue how you guys are setting this. I'm using the 77.72 drivers and anything near what you guys are saying looks horrible. I'm going to Display Properties, Advanced, NVIDIA Panel, Color Correction.

Where are you setting the temp? Is it because of these drivers?

no man, you have to download powerstrip

http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm

download it there, then go to color profiles and customise then try out my settings, my sparkles are pretty much gone now

You did not find the check box i nthe newest powerstrip. It is in advanced settings.

Put a check in the box that says:
"Remove sparkles on XPS2 laptops".

I hear that option does the trick.

lol max i wish but o well

The problem I have is. If it wasnt for this forum 99% of the new XPS2 owners out their would not even know a sparkle existed and would be satisifed.

Nah I am just on Dells side with this. After working with a littler over 2000 Dell laptops onsite here at work and 2 xps2's and to lattitudes at home I dont see this as a viable complaint or a real issue. More fabrication than substance or Imagination. Kind like read it on the net so beit true to have "sparkles".

I agree, Max. I can see the polarization pattern everyone's so up in arms about, but...I consider it pretty minor.

Ignorance is bliss is SO true! I had a Dell 5160 that I was very happy with, but the vid card was too old so i swapped it. My friend has it now, and after reading these forums, I realized that the thing had HORRIBLE light leakage and other problems. I used the thing for a year and it never bugged me until I knew about it from these forums...

LOL! I've been neg-rep'ed for my "Ignorance" comment. This is TOO funny

The test pattern looks pretty good.

Check out their website.

Doc, your profile is the best I have seen so far. I didnt notice how exagerated the blues were on my screen until I put it next to my viewsonic CRT. Its now almost the same color wise. Thanks a lot for that config, everyone try it out.

does anyone know how to disable the tip of the day from starting up on powerstrip, it says registered users only, where can I register or get rid of this?

Someone mentioned buying something to calibrate their displays, so I figured there must be software available for professional display calibration. I found DisplayMate. I went through their calibration suite, applied a little personal taste here and there, and ended up with that profile.

Here is the DisplayMate test pattern. The colors were wrong when I saved it as a jpeg, but TIF looks right.

The more I use this profile, the better I like it. I keep noticing little things like how all the buttons and such in my Firefox toolbar stand out with perfect blues, greens, reds, oranges, bananas ( ), etc. The greys look like the "Windows Grey" I've seen almost every day for the last 15 years, and the whites couldn't be better if I flossed.

Like many others, I never really noticed the heavy blue bias. Now that I have this profile to compare to the original, it's amazingly obvious.

The hardest thing to settle on was the color temp. A couple clicks higher, say 5600, makes it a bit "whiter" I guess, but it starts headding back towards "blueish" if you go too far. I'll stay with 5400 for now.

Software calibrater are not accurate though. I tested a couple then decided to go ahead and get a Colorvision Spyder Pro2 (hardware/software) calibrater. HUGE difference, but I guess it mayt be to much for average user. I am making money off of photography.

Indeed. However, their level of accuracy is certain to be higher than poking around in Powerstrip while using Miss July as a test image.

Admittedly, the latter is probably a more entertaining way of going about it.

I may look into hardware / software hybrid calibration systems in the future, as my wife is a published underwater photographer. Damn her perfect Sony screen!

If you're up to playing around a bit, this might be quite helpful to the rest of us:

Load Powerstrip and tweak the settings to match your Spider calibration as closely as you can and then post your results. A "best guess" from a professional eye should be good enough for the masses.

The quest for a less subjective color profile was what led me to trying the software. You could essentially put the lid on this thread with your results.

Ya that would be great, since spider2pro is very expensive.
