Can the i9300 use the Pentium M 770 2.13G CPU?

Can the i9300 use the Pentium M 770 2.13G CPU?

I thought I read somewhere that is an option in a European country for these laptops. Is that true? And if so, would it require an upgraded heatsink? I think they all run at about the same temps right?

Thanks.

Yes, they all run at about the same temp. So if you want to upgrade to a 2.13, I owuld suggest that you buy the 1.6 from Dell and then do the upgrade yourself. You might wanna wait until the 2.26 before buying the 2.13 because its costs 6XX bux!!! The 2.26 comes out this summer I think.

Also the 2.13ghz 770 Pentium M is available as an option on 9300s in the UK so it is definitely compatible.

Is there going to be a 2.XX GHz 790 coming out? I'm pretty sure the P-M can handle higher clock speeds than 2.26 GHz

The 790 from what I've heard is just rumoured so far so will have to wait and see on that one

What do you think the clock frequency would be? 2.39 GHz or 2.40 GHz? That would be a real nice maximum! If not the 2.26 GHz is still going to bee a killer
post #7 of 15
If there is a 790 it will be 2.4ghz yes (well technically it will be 2.399ghz but they will call it 2.4 just like the 2.0ghz one is really 1.999ghz)

Thank you guys! I appreciate the info.

I bought the PM 1.6 with the sole intent of buying a much faster processor aftermarket. Thanks again.

However now I am wondering if I should wait to see about getting the PM 2.26Ghz instead. Oh... the choices...

If the 1.6 is meeting your needs currently I wouldn't rush to upgrade as prices will come down and faster chips will be released

Wait until the 2.26 GHz comes out, because then it will lower the cost of the 2.13 and the 2.00 processors

I am 100% sure it can't if you want it to stay in its 27 Watt TDP! I am not tryingn to sound rude, but do you even know anything about yields, and how a processor works, or even the design around the Pentium M?

The lastest road maps show then Pentium M 780 2.26GHz is the end of the line for the "Dothan" core Pentium M, until "Yonah" dual core Pentium M's take over in Q1 2006. If the next wave of Pentium M's get pushed back then you might see a 2.39Ghz Pentium M. So far "Yonah" is right on schedule and looking really healthy, that includes Intel 65nm process!

It is alot cheaper buying the Pentium M 770 2.13GHz Pentium M from Dell because Intel sells them at a discounted price if you buy them 1000's.

of course if you can buy its
It might be cheaper in the US to get it from Dell but in the UK the 2.13ghz is a £399 upgrade option from the 1.76ghz, I have seen the 2.13ghz here in the UK selling for £375 retail. So I don't know how you can call £399 cheaper than £375 minus whatever you can get selling on the 1.76ghz.

Edit
And as others will tell you the 2.13ghz isn't an option at all on the 9300 in the US.

huh, thanks for being so polite. I guess some one never took a basic composition to learn how to word statements so they don't sound so rude.

Yes, I was being rude, and unless you actually design and make processors don't speak about the archietural limits of the Dothan because it has proven one of the most amazing mobile chips.

Edit: Since there was a rumor about the 790 I stated it. Simple as that, I nominate Brett VanKirk as Noob Of The Week

I am sorry for sounding rude MichaelX30, but if you want to keep the Pentium M within spec then you can't push it much further. I am not questioning the chips power if you put it on a desktop board, and got a decent heat sink, increased the voltage slighty you will be able to get another 400Mhz about of it. This just isn't possisble for mobile use in a laptop.

The Pentium M's archietural design is good but its doesn't have all the features that a desktop CPU has, its has a low floating point, and is has poor SSE instructions. Yonah will bring these features to the table but will still be lacking in some areas. If you are looking for a truely awesome multicore mobile cpu, look no further then "Merom". With that being said the Pentium M is still a pretty amazing CPU.
