No, my estimated ship date (for 9300) is still there. Every day it moves one day to the future. However, my order date vanished a few days ago, and today it has reappeared

Great news (at least for me). My status as of today is "preparing for shipment". I have a 12th of April date! (Ordered 18th) On the minus side, I was hoping to get 10% of like Quark! (I got 10% off on my 9100 when it took over a month to arrive)

I have an electronic packing slip, is it possible to work out the screen from the part number? (230-10010)

I'd say "you lucky sod" but you've waited long enough! Still,

Nice one! Hope it arrives safe and sound and SOON! Looks like you'll need to book some time off next week...

Funnily enough, my ETA went back to April, 14th now. The CSR confirmed that that's what he says now, but he also said that he can't promise that's the final date, as they ship out by the time the order was received, and if I don't get it by that date, I might get it as late as in June.
I still hope that I am only seeing the fluctuations there, so if I am REALLY lucky, I might get my laptop in April AND get that discount. Because it has already been entered in to the system I am just waiting for that Rahmed guy to call me back and confirm - I just hope he won't pull the plug on it now that he sees April, 14th. I will complain bitterly about the delays I already had, so I am fairly confident in getting it

Well chaps i phoned today and the rep i spoke to this time told me my estimated delivery date is the 12 April. I then proceded to tell her i was told yesterday that the lappy would be leaving the factory, she then informed me it was production but held up due to part shortage. She asked me if i had facilities to look at my status online and i said yes.

So I am no further forward and dont really know what status the lappy is really in and i feel the CSR's dont really know either will wait to next week then the guns are coming out if there is any more stories being told

U4iK: It basically comes down to it is NOT in production, it is just their system telling them it is. Unfortunately, the online status seems to be the correct one - their "in production" probably appears while they are technically still waiting for parts, while the online status correctly classifies it as "pre-production". As soon as the parts arrive, ours will go into production, so they are probably SCHEDULED for production. What does your online status say as ETA?
Basically, we can just wait - and the past few times the reps actually told me exactly that and DIDN'T promise to meet those ETAs anymore - they did that all the time in the past. I think the people at Dell are now realizing that XPS 2 systems don't go that smoothly and don't commit to anything anymore. Fine with me if I get my 10%...

10% off sounds good mate hope they aint bluffing about that to. Yeah I know we will have to wait just sort of got my hopes up after yesterdays phone call guess thats why i hate dealing with people on the phone because all you ever seem to get is bull when people dont know. My ETA online says april 14th and just there on the phone i was told april 12th anytime around these dates would be acceptable june would not.

Decided not to leave the full story up here for posterity. Just in case Mr. Dell is watching

Jahboo, you are taking your life in your hands telling people that story..... Essentially you cancelled orders, ordered later than most people STILL waiting for a machine, were surprised to have one delivered quickly AND realise you have another one coming for free! I'd go into hiding if I were you. People WILL track you down!

Maybe, JimBob, but this is actually terrible because people who ordered on the 17th got their XPS2s well before me(16th). So I'm really quite hard done by. Honest. Besides, if they're really chomping at the bit and facing 9th June delivery they could always look out for my eBay auction.

Dell, dontcha luv 'em?

ba-ba-da *bump*

And I have a delivery date again! Still the 19th April though... Can you upgrade the graphics on an etch-a-sketch? It's getting to be awful tempting, I mean look at that infinite battery life!

Grrrr. Why does everbody get their XPS 2, just not me? I didn't order THAT late Anyway, have fun with it...

The production hold up has been held up by a shortage of DVD writers!!! Can you believe it?

Therefore, people who ordered the basic system will have received it much quicker than those with the DVD writer upgrade. There's irony for you - spend much more money and receive you laptop much, much later!!

My delivery date has been changing constantly over the past 10 days, ranging from 11 April to 9 June. This morning it shows as 16 April (this Saturday).

Where did you receive that information from?

And if that's the case, I would have gladly accepted it with a CD burner, 200 Pounds off and gotten my own DVD burner later on...

Just called Dell again and the CSR still had a shipping date of April, 13th - online delivery still April, 14th, which gives them two days to complete my laptop Seeing that some jumped from "pre-production" to "shipped" directly, it's not that unlikely - but I still doubt it. Am already getting my hopes up again, damn.
Anyway, the reason why I called was to find out about my discount and she said that it was already in their system and I wouldn't need to do anything. Seeing that she knew what she was talking about, there really WAS something in the system (unlike with many of those fake callback promises), so I am hopefully that I will really get it. They didn't take any money from my credit card yet anyway, soooo...

Got the info on the DVD writer shortage from my Dell rep in India. Pretty decent guy and so far has been very reliable. He reckons it will delay my order by around 4 days

Makes sense when you see people's sigs.

Fingers crossed for this week though

Yeah, sounds reasonable, everybody focused on the screens or Graphics card, but almost everyone has the DVD writer as well.
I still wonder why they were able to tell you what component - what did you do, ask them why your order was held up? And the he went into his system and typed a bit and then said "oh, it's the dvd burners"? In my case, I always hear them typing and clicking and they then say "I don't see anything here, your system is in production"...

Yeah I know no-one really cares, but my XPS2 has gone into production and I am quite innapropriately excited!

The curious thing, said Alice, is that it is in Production "as of 4/1/2005 13:15" whereas this morning is was in Pre-production "as of 4/1/2005 13:15".
